Sunny afternoons and a blue moon

Our July has been pretty disappointing but for the start of August it's going to feel a bit warmer with some sunshine. I am not promising a heatwave but we'll get rid of the chilly feel.

Friday is looking a bit more unsettled with sunshine and a few showers across the north and west. It will feel warmer as the winds switch from a north-westerly to a south-westerly. If you can dodge the showers it's not a bad day to get out and enjoy areas such as St. Catherine’s Island in Tenby. Thank you Nigel Scriven for sharing this picture with us.

There's a full moon coming this Friday that is unlike anything we've seen since 2012 and won't see again until early 2018! - It's called a blue moon. Despite the name don't expect the moon to actually turn blue. This full moon is special because it's the second one to occur this month - that's what a 'blue moon' is. The first full moon happened on July 2nd. It's a pretty cloudy night but Powys and the north coast stand the best chance of seeing the phenomena.

A line of showers will spill into the north and west overnight into Saturday. That will give us a showery start to the weekend. The wet weather should clear south eastwards through the morning. By the time we get to Saturday afternoon most of us will enjoy drier and brighter conditions.

On Sunday we'll be dragging much warmer air from mainland Europe. It will feel much more like Summer with highs of 18-20°C. So it will be mostly sunny, but cloud will increase from the west later on bringing the chance of a few showers.

It looks like it’s all downhill again next week with showers or longer spells of rain, and if that wasn't enough, blustery conditions too!
