The hot spell continues. In Porthmadog the temperature soared to 31°C, 88°F today. Not a record for July but the highest temperature of the year so far in Wales. Porthmadog was also the hottest place in the UK today and warmer than the Algarve in Portugal.
Over the weekend there will be a few subtle changes. It's not going to be quite so hot, which will come as a relief to some people, but it will still be very warm. Temperatures will rise into the mid-twenties Celsius and still warm at night.
I can't promise a clear, blue sky everywhere this weekend. Some places, mainly in the east, will start grey on Saturday and Sunday mornings but the sun is very strong so the low cloud will soon lift and clear.

How long will this hot spell last? Well, next week temperatures may rise again and it will become increasingly muggy. The higher humidity will also bring an increased risk of showers or thunderstorms, especially later in the week.
This signals a gradual breakdown in the hot weather, and by next weekend it should be cooler and more unsettled.
If you're going to the Royal Welsh Show in Llanelwedd next week, it's going to be very warm and humid with the chance of a shower or thunderstorm.
