Rob Brydon's stage début in The Painkiller

Rob Brydon today announced on Twitter that he will make his stage début in The Painkiller at the Lyric Theatre in Belfast later this year.

One hundred days from now the Lyric Theatre will re-open in a spectacular new £18m building, and to mark the countdown it has unveiled highlights from the forthcoming season.

Brydon is set to star alongside Kenneth Branagh in The Painkiller, a farce by Francis Veber. This new adaptation is by Sean Foley, who will produce with Branagh, and will open on 29 September 2011.

Brydon said on his Twitter account: "I shall be appearing in my first stage play, The Painkiller, alongside the brilliant Kenneth Branagh, in Belfast, opens 29th Sept... The play will be at the reopening Lyric. I really couldn't be more excited about it."
