Is it really autumn already?

Where did the summer go? Did we have a summer? Will we have an Indian summer?

These are some of questions I've been hearing on a daily basis for the past few weeks. The facts and figures for summer 2015 have not been published yet, but in my opinion it wasn't an awful summer...

We did have some sunny days, a few sticky and humid days, and yes, there was a fair bit of rain as well. It didn't help that the jet stream decided to come and sit on top of us again for much of the summer bringing a series of low pressure systems. On the other hand much of Europe had a very hot summer with unpleasant temperatures for some.

Onwards now, and in meteorology for the Northern hemisphere, autumn begins on September the 1st. Here we are now with the first day of metrological autumn and it's not a bad day as long as you can dodge the showers. Some of the showers will be very heavy especially in north Wales. As we head towards the end of the week much of the showers will die away thanks to high pressure. We can then look forward to a lot of dry weather but also more cloud with bright spells in between. The northerly winds will make it feel much cooler, especially in the nights.

Weather outlook for Wales

We all know autumn is a transitional month which means we could see some cold conditions but equally we could see warm or hot days. I am personally holding out for an Indian summer in October so don't put away the flip flops just yet!
