Getting colder from Wednesday evening onwards

We've had it good lately. In fact we've had it really good for the start of October.

The temperatures today reached a high of 20°C/68°F in Usk not bad considering the average for this month is 13°C/55°F.

There has been no sign of a frost either but it's all about to change with a big drop in temperatures from Wednesday night onwards.

The winds are switching to a northerly air flow, bringing much colder air and tonight will be the last of the mild nights for a while.

The temperatures will just about hang on to double figures in towns and cities. Overnight cloud and patchy rain will lead to mist and fog forming during the early morning.

Wednesday is really the transitional day between the milder air and cold weather.

We start the morning on a mild note but by the evening it will feel pretty chilly.

The winds will increase throughout Wednesday with another cold front bringing variable amounts of cloud with light and patchy rain, clearing by the afternoon.

It should then brighten up from the north with average temperatures for October reaching 11-15°C, so feeling fresher than today.

Wednesday will be a cold night with clear skies and strong northerly winds taking over.

We shouldn't have a widespread frost but a touch of frost is possible in sheltered areas, so protect your vulnerable plants.

Thursday morning will start off cold but it will be a dry and bright day with variable amounts of cloud, but another cold night beckons.

Towards the end of the week, it will be largely dry with bright or sunny spells but noticeably colder than of late.

So, it should soon look and feel more like autumn!
