Last night, Capel Curig in Snowdonia was the coldest place in Wales with a low of -6 Celsius but it's going to be a long time before we see temperatures that low again.

It's turning milder today but wet with some heavy rain. Given the land is saturated from last month's downpours; more rain will quickly find its way into the rivers and streams.

There is also a warning of flooding on the coast this weekend, especially in southwest Wales. This is likely to lead to further coastal flood alerts or warnings being issued. Two new flood warnings have been issued for the Wye Estuary in Chepstow and Tintern. High tide is expected at 8.15 pm in Chepstow and at 8.35pm in Tintern.

The Environment Agency is advising people to take extra care when walking or driving near the coast, as there is likely to be large waves and sea spray.

Today's heavy rain will clear tonight leaving a mixture of sunshine and showers over the weekend; the showers heavy in places with hail and thunder. Daytime highs 7-10 Celsius. Overnight lows 2-8 Celsius with little or no frost.

Talking of frost, there are different types, including hoar and black frost.

A black frost occurs when the air is very dry and it can turn plants black!

Unfortunately, it was too cloudy in Wales last night to see the Gemind meteor shower but Monday evening was nice and clear and Richard Hopkins from Llandudno took this picture of Orion rising over Colwyn Bay (Jupiter in the top right).
