I’ll warn you, today might be a bit loud. Because, it seems Eleri Sion had a teenage crush.
Watch the moment when Eleri found out on-air that she'll be meeting her all-time 80s icon
At a tender age, she was a little obsessed with the voice and clean-cut looks of 80s pop star, Paul Young. And, although she might deny it, perhaps – perhaps - that teenage crush never really went away. So much so that when her production team managed to get Paul to come on the programme, they decided to surprise her on air with a gold envelope. Just imagine what she’d be like if her lottery numbers came up!
Paul Young was so amused with Eleri’s reaction he tweeted; "Hilarious! I hope I can match up to her expectations..."
So the scene is set. Find out what happens when Eleri meets Paul: today at 2.30pm.
I suspect there will be a tad more decorum when Eleri speaks to John Barrowman on Wednesday and this week’s BBC Radio Wales Artist of the Week, Tree of Wolves on Tuesday. The Carmarthen five-piece’s new single, Half Light, can be heard across the station all this week. Tree of Wolves are the latest name on the playlist, joining the Manics, Caroline Harrison, We’re No Heroes, Gruff Rhys, David Gray, Ella Henderson, Sophie Ellis Bextor, George Erza, Coldplay and Dolly Parton.
As July approaches, focus starts to turn to both the Royal Welsh Show and the Commonwealth Games. Sunday’s Country Focus looks the logistics of the Royal Welsh – just what does it take to put on this extravaganza in the heart of rural wales? Meanwhile, for the next six weeks Wynne Evans is trying to find out what it takes to become a Commonwealth athlete. On this Friday’s Big Welsh Weekend he takes a judo lesson. And yes, I think they do get the better of him.
Elsewhere this week, brand new Friday night comedy as our own Lloyd Langford is joined by Scot Des Clarke and Northern Irishman Owen O’Neill for The Big Celtic Comedy Tour. The three will visit each other countries, undertaking native tasks and then writing and performing stand-up on what they’ve been up to. If the Cardiff recording is anything to go by, it should be very funny indeed. It all starts Friday at 6.30pm. And there’s more live music on the station on Sunday morning when Roy Noble is joined by the Siren Sisters.
Finally, the Eye on Wales and the All Things Considered teams worked hard to get quick-turnaround programmes on the air last weekend about the three young Cardiff men believed to be fighting for Isis in Syria. There's another chance to hear Eye on Wales tonight at 6.30pm.
And while you’re listening back, track down Radio Wales Sport’s new podcast, The Big Sports Interviews, particularly for footballer Andy Legg’s candour in describing his experience of cancer.
