Double blow as double low arrives this weekend

We’ve had more than our fair share of rain this month and there’s more wet and windy weather to come as we head into the start of November with strong to gale force winds expected this weekend.

Low pressure will move in from the Atlantic tomorrow bringing heavy rain to parts of southern Britain with strong wind and gales developing in the English Channel later in the afternoon, evening and into the night.

Another low pressure system will follow hot on its heels on Saturday which will track further north across Ireland and northern England bringing a spell of rain and strong to gale force winds.

Severe gales are likely in the Celtic and Irish Sea and on exposed coasts in the south and west with gusts around 60 or 70mph possible.

Saturday will start dry followed by a spell of rain clearing to blustery showers in the afternoon. It will remain windy into evening and night so if you’re planning a firework or bonfire party conditions will not be ideal.

On Sunday, the wind will ease but it will remain breezy with a mixture of sunshine and scattered blustery showers.

Highest temperatures will be in the range 9 to 13 Celsius over the weekend and it will feel chilly in the wind.

For surfers: some big and messy waves are likely on the south coast on Saturday afternoon with strong onshore winds combining with an increasing 2-3m swell moving up the Bristol Channel.

Many surfers will be pleased but take care if you’re on the coast around high tide http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/coast_and_sea/tide_tables

In the meantime, I wish you a happy Halloween. If you’re out with your pumpkin and witches hat or flying around on your broomstick this evening, watch out for a few zombie clouds and spooky showers!
