Wow! This is my first look at the new Chapter - its so gorgeous and
sleek it feels like I'm in New York rather than Cardiff. Transportation was
also on the cards for the music tonight, as lots of new exciting Welsh
and UK names take to the stage in a staggered bill of colourful
individuality.
Science Bastard from Newport were first on, but were a noisy, chaotic ragged group, with an edge. Zimmermans, normally a one man band, got in their stride and were a younger Muscle Club, lots of shouty, rawkus eneregy!
Son Capson are something else - something else and I'm not sure what. Individual to an extreme, which is always better than boring, but not sure its my cup of tea - it's a sea shanty-gypsy folk - cripes!
Bright Light Bright Light had the best show I've seen in a while, and perhaps a Marina pop friendly crowd was just the place for his music. it's a-Ha, it's Calvin Harris, it's Shakin Stevens, it's pure pop.
Y Promatics, swapped for Race Horses, did their electro indie thing to a T. Then Post War Years were the surprise of the night for me - totally engaging, funny, charming, with edgier music than I expected. Rhythmic, dancing patterns reminicent of Foals, and four part harmonies. Nice.
Martin Carr was all California sunshine coast warmth and melody. Then, Marina & the Diamonds prowled onto the stage in a daring outfit, a big voice and plenty of OmPah!
Big night, good night, and it was still only Thursday. Day 1 Swn - done!
