It's that time of year again, when I try to squeeze an entire year's worth of excellent Music of Welsh origin into three paltry airwave hours.
Previous years have given me ulcers; I've burnt more bridges than the SAS in enemy territory because of omissions and oversights, and spent the first six months of the new year kicking myself in the shins over the tracks I wished I had included.
To solve these problems - and extend my life expectancy by at least 3.76 hrs - this year's celebration of my favourite music of Welsh origin is spread across two three hour shows... and it's still a very compact, tin of sardines-like affair. You can listen to part one here.
I'm trying to avoid calling it the Best of 2012 because the beauty of music is that we all have our own opinion on what we were most impressed with. These two shows, then, represent a selection of the 100+ tracks that have most moved and inspired me in the last 12 months.
Music of Welsh origin [bring on the first MOWO awards, please] can be defined as follows: Welsh artists (in Wales and elsewhere); artists based in Wales; artists on Welsh record labels; artists represented by Welsh management; tracks produced by Welsh producers. It's the same set of criteria I operate under every Saturday night.
The only other ground rule I imposed on myself was this: a limit of one track per artist, no exceptions.
I will endeavour to tweet the playlists live during the shows (hashtag #MOWO2012) to @welshmusic
I hope you enjoy the shows.
I'll be back live in the studio on Saturday 5 January.
These are the final statistics for the music I've been lucky enough to support and showcase in 2012.
1410 diff songs/ 1939 Total. 824 Artists in 52 shows since 1st, Jan '12 (~Songs per:37, Unique artists per:16) Welsh:94% Cymraeg:12%.
Many thanks to all of the artists and labels who have submitted music to me. Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year.
