New youth arts festival for Swansea

Laura Chamberlain

A new youth arts festival celebrating dance, drama, music and visual arts will take place in Swansea on Sunday.

The Olion Youth Arts Festival, which has been organised by Swansea Metropolitan University, will be held in Paradise Park in the Townhill area of the city from 11am to 4pm.

Performers will include young local bands, DJs, dance acts and singers. Britain's Got Talent finalists A3 will appear and there will be a performance of Troy Boyz, a mix of street dance and physical dance theatre.

An urban art exhibition will show the results from a number of workshops run by art and design student Jen-Wah Lee with young people at the Hill Youth Support Centre.

Festival organiser Lucy Beddall said: "This is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the creative talents of local young people. Everyone is welcome and there will be the chance to talk to local organisations to see how people can get involved with other projects."

The festival is one of a number of creative projects for young people organised by Project Olion, which aims to reduce the number of young people in Wales who are not in education, employment or training.
