More dry weather, but rainfall on its way

It was the summer solstice last Saturday and sun worshippers were treated to plenty of summer sunshine over the weekend.

Usk in Monmouthshire was the warmest place yesterday with a top temperature of 24.6°C but at night it turned cool inland, especially in rural spots, with a low of 3.5°C recorded at Swyddfynnon in Ceredigion early on Sunday morning.

Cardiff recorded 25°C today making it the hottest day of the year so far in the capital.

Meanwhile, some coastal areas have been pleasantly cooler, with Aberdaron on the Llyn Peninsula seeing 17°C.

Looking ahead, there is more dry weather to come this week but low pressure over the Atlantic looks set to move towards the southwest of the UK later in the week and this will bring a risk of some rain and showers on Thursday and Friday.

However, there are differences between the computer models which means there is some doubt about how much rain we’ll see, and confidence in the distribution of rainfall later this week is currently low.

At the moment, it looks like the south will see most of the rain, but the forecast could well change.
