The One Show: The nerves are building after a whirlwind few weeks

I've only ever watched a few minutes of The One Show with the old team. But I'm definitely going to tune in tonight, fresh presenting team, fresh focus. Good luck to Alex and Jason.

I can't wait. Got to be better than Grumpy Chiles!!

Wow! Just stumbled upon this page as I visited the site for the first time poper since the blogs ended on 25 March. Just like old times...



I'm watching the new pairing with interest to see how things will be... they have a hard act to follow after the recent excellent pairing: Gabby Logan & Matt Baker were excellent, and Louise Minchin was tremendous during both her stints.

I thought you were both great on tonites show but i would have liked to have seen more time spent on your interviewing Whoopi Goldberg, as she is an actress with so many great films behind her. (As Jason said on Chris Evans today, he watched three of her films last night!!) There were too many features on tonites show, it was a waste of a great guest. But you made a good first impression!

A much improved show, much prefer the new presenters to miserable Chiles and smarmy Bleakley!

Just wondering if you will continue to do the Jonathan show and Bwrw’r Bar Alex?

Fabulous first show Alex and Jason - "tidy job" - Great to share Welsh presenting talent and hear that accent Alex and you looked gorgeous. Well done and enjoy your well deserved success.

It's a pity that the 'clone' has such an annoying voice but I suppose it will grow on us.

The pairing doesn't work for me, Jason is a mediocre stand up comedian and Alex is just a clone of Christine with an exceptionally irratating voice. People used to moan about smiley happy Christine, well this new girl is making a BIG attempt to impersonate her. I'm afraid The One Show for me has just died a death. Matt Baker & Gaby Logan would have been a much better choice. Don't think I could be bothered listening to that droning welsh accent every evening.

It was an ok performance Jason done a better job than Alex she looked liked a rabbit caught in the headlights I don't feel there is a real connection between them sorry ! what annoys me though is that Alex stated in an interview that she thought the BBC were brave for choosing a regional presenter ummm sorry but was Christine not "regional" ??? I know it's early days for this duo & I have been a huge One Show fan from start but so far it aint doing it for me Jason might keep pulling it off, Alex not getting her at all sorry ....

Why Alex, the stand in was far better, if he is to say he will have to improve, we need better quality presentation.

I assume that when the program goes North he is the only one available.

What a load of rubbish some people talk. Alex has a nice voice unlike the rough Northern Irish voice of previous female presenter. Jason was o.k. but only time will tell if the pairing works. It took time with previous 2.

Watched it twice now and only one word "GARBAGE" it needs scrapping jason and his side kick have no personality between them .

I am holding judgment for a week, cause i still remember thinking the original presenters looked uncomfortable at first,then they came into it. but i do think they made a mistake making the new girl look so much like christine, comparison doesnt help. still i feel the show may struggle now.....hope i am wrong.

Alex was excellent in front of the camera ; very attractive , well spoken , fun-loving ........... but I would suggest that she learns to sit properly with her legs elegantly together and not splayed out like a giraffe intending to drink water !

What an irritating voice the new female presenter of the One Show has! And would it possible to tell her that there is a "G" at the end of words like "having" and "getting". The new show is flat and lacking in spark....Jason could do better than this.

Tonight's show was terrific - just what we like about the One Show.



Great pieces about helicopter winchman landings on a nuclear sub and fantastic Alice with the full on Welsh - good on you girl. Loved the Welsh male voice choir too - more of similar please. Could this be a series about regional singing - Northumbrian pipes , tin whistles , spoons , bagpipes etc?

I have watched all week, and I am afraid Alex's voice is doing my brains in and she tends to interrupt too much. Also poor Woopi she didn't even seem to listen to what she was saying and went straight on to reading what was next. Pity. Couldn't we have had a nice cockney to play the part - now that would be a first I think. What is it with all these outsiders - Northerners, Irish, Welsh. Let's come back to London!!

Do they ever mention it's on BBC HD?



Ofcom confirmed today that 5m homes can get BBC HD - that's 20% of the population, yet on Tuesday evening 4.66m watched The One Show in SD and only 31,000 in HD!!

I have enjoyed watching the last few weeks of The One Show, with the changing presenters each week but no disrespects to Alex and her co star personally but i wont even be watching BBC1 Mon-Thurs 7-7.30 anymore.

The constant interrupting of the guests that they have on the show and the female presenters voice is just so annoying, its not one that i can listen to without having to turn over the TV as it goes right through me and i know they have just started on the show but somehow for me i cant watch it anymore. Maybe one of the duo need a little more practice at the show, so time will tell but unfortunatley the show is just not watchable anymore, sad as i used to like the show but not now. Good luck to the new presenters, but this is 1 household that wont be watching now. Sorry

Where do you find these people, BBC? The One Show never did have very much going for it. A sort of Blue Peter for adults but loosely based upon the old In Town Tonight show.



The new presenters are just awful. There is no synergy between them. They keep interrupting the guests. They get important details wrong.



I really hope that you are not spending very much of my license fee on this pair because they ain't worth much at all.

To cut short the story of the black rats on the One Show, because the producers presenting the Show shows a lack of education. This should have gone ahead because all animals and creatures have their place in nature. Black rats also have their place in nature. I found what was shown very interesting.

I've just watched the interesting programme "Digging for Britain" : I can't find anywgere to post a comment, so I'm putting it here.

I noticed a possible source of confusion, which may be due to "metrication". An early excavator had meticulously recorded his finds, and, on a record card , gave a distance as 35 feet. The person currently in charge of the finds thought that this was 35 inches. This could cause problems trying to make sense of the earlier records.

Following my post on Monday, I have followed this blog, which is still, surprisingly, running... this is, for old regular bloggers on TOS such as myself, most welcome. However, can you advise if it will be kept open/moderated for some time to come, or is it only for a few days. I suspect the latter, though if not, then it would be good to see the per-nightly bloggs return.



In any case, the show is ticking along nicely, with the two new presenters doing a fine job thus far. Some of the items recently have been excellent, notably the WWII pieces.

Re 28: derek500 - interesting figures. The presenters did promote the 'unveiling' of the show in HD when it returned from the summer break. However, looking back at the figures over the last few weeks, it seems that, as you point out, a very small percentage watch in HD. The corresponding percentage for programmes such as Top Gear & Dragons' Den is much higher (about 4-10%).



I guess it's easy to forget that it's on HD as long as the HD channel continues to have a different schedule from either BBC1 or BBC2 - I did just that on quite a few occasions before (now)watching in HD every night.

I have only caught the One Show now and again in the past - it is now however one of my regular favourites. Jason, Alex and Chris have given it a breath of fresh air without changing the essence of the show. Pea Man was brilliant!

Chris and Alex what a great team, Chris is a good sport and a natural presenter. Enjoyed the show and would love to see Chris on more than once a week.

No sorry doesn’t work for me at any level.. afraid I find her too irritating and have to switch over, voice, body language , presenting and interviewing skills just aren’t there and its not being pulled off.



They are trying to repeat the look they had and should have done something completely different to avoid comparison. Beauty and the beast worked for Christine and Adrian and they are trying to clone it...



As for adding Chris to the Friday mix, that really doesn’t work, so my vote goes to Chris to do it on his own on Fridays, I can watch it at least one day then.



Shame, I enjoyed the One Show but lost its buzz....

I did not realise that you were bringing back TIZWAZ. Shall not be watching again. What absolute rubbish!!

I am not a particular Chris Evans fan but he injected some life into the show : he really lifted it and to be frank, made the female presenter look a little superfluous and maybe a little amateur. I saw a little of the show earlier in the week and felt it was all a little forced : to much anxiety and talking by the hosts rather than listening and then reacting.. early days though..

What a great start, the new presenters of The One Show have settled in well. I am sure that Jason and Alex will make a success of the show. Both Jason and Alex have relaxed over the past few days and made the show as enjoyable as before.



Sadly that cannot be said about tonights show (Friday). Chris Evans's performance tonight was childish and has ruined the show for me. I for one will not watch the programme on Fridays in future if he is going to present. All he could do was shout. Poor show - think again BBC it was rubbish.

Perhaps alex might like to research her comment this evening about solar energy "not working". Very damaging, inaccurate comment and surprisingly ignorant given the level of positive press solar electricity generation has had recently. From a highly satisfied solar powered household!

Ah! Alexei recounting/re-enacting the old 'Plasticine man being chased by an office block' Polish animation! Classic comedy.

Yet another dreadful programme with that awful Chris Evans! The only good thing about tonights programme was James Martin. What a shame that he was shouted at as we were by that poor presenter Chris Evans. Does he really have to shout? We can hear him sadly. Please let Jason do Fridays - he is so much better.

Watched the One Show last night Such as shame the BBC have employeed Chris Evans to host it on a Friday night, why cant we just have Jason and Alex 5 days a week.

I only wish I could understand a word Alex was saying. What an irritating voice!

Used to be an entertaining show, but now just irritating & poorly presented with Alex trying to be a clone of Christine & not succeeding, & Jason "all over TV like a rash" Manford, not looking or acting at all comfortable in this role. Maybe it's still just nerves? I don't think so. The 'temporary' presenters were far better. Poor choices BBC & I think your audience ratings for this programme will fall drastically if it carries on like this.



As for Mr Evans ..... well, as much as I surprisingly, thoroughly enjoy his radio show, his input on the Friday 'One Show' to date has been just silly & juvenile, with Alex trying to climb all over him - the sofa is not that small.....! Pathetic. Grow up Chris, its a family show not a 'Mr Blobby' type kids show. Improve or lose.

Such as shame that Chris Evans is presenting the One Show on a Friday night the current format from Monday to Thursday with Alex and Jason completely outshines Evans', who is a dreadful presenter. I for one will no longer watch this program on a Friday night.

I have been pleasantly surprised by Jason. Makes one think that this presenting malarkey must be easy as he makes it look so effortless. I think it must help being a comic. I do think he is suffering from TV overexposure though at present. He mustn't be able to say "no" to anything, but I don't want to see him ALL the time.

Chris Evans just comes across a nuisance I am sorry to say. He is too manic, camera hogging and juvenile that I want to throw things at the TV when he is on. I feel sorry for his patient co-host.

Alex had big shoes to fill and I think she has done it flawlessly. Comparisons with the previous presenter were inevitable especially given the similarities in looks, background and presenting styles, but I think she will make this gig her own very quickly. Her accent, like Huw Edward's is subtle, but I still find it annoying, but I guess that is more my problem than hers and I am sure I am in the minority on this issue. I love, love, loved Christine's accent and it made her very watchable.

I have read most of the comments that others have made and the most surprising thing is the amount of comments that seem to be so negative about Alex and her co-presenter. Personally I think that although some people have an issue with Alex's voice/what she does with her legs/how like Christine she is/interuptions etc. I feel that Alex has had little time to settle in. This beautiful Welsh lady with superb legs should be allowed time to settle in before she is attacked so harshly. I for one would not complain about those legs being in shot more so can someone have a word with the cameraman please. I like the new pairing. Good show

Further to my last comments about the One Show I would like to add that Jason is far better than Christines co-presenter which I think was one of the most annoying people on tele. At least Jason has a sense of humour. Good show Jason and Alex. I look forward to more Alex particularly because I'm a bloke but Jason does make me chuckle sometimes as opposed to chuck which the other bloke made me feel.

Re above two comments: I agree - Alex & Jason are doing very well. Adverse comments such as those you mention were always going to be made, however, as the knives were out before they even appeared. Somewhat of an old tradition with the show's blogs... on the old nightly blog, a merry band of complainers (who scarcely seemed to pay much attention to the interesting items in the show) enjoyed complaining so much they even dstarted their own website to continue unmoderated...

Alex has to go... she is ruining what used to be a good programme. Her voice could cut glass (when you can understand what she is saying), she has no presentation skills whatsoever.



Jason would be a lot better with someone else, Chris Evans would no doubt improve too with someone less eratic.

have loved the one show for a couple of years, we were worried about jason taking over from adrian, needn`t have worried. He has the same easy charm and humour, jury still out on alex and, whilst i have always liked chris evans, not too sure about him either.

Having given it a little time I think a pattern is emerging : Jason has settled in well and his more relaxed persona together with the ability to make an impromptu joke/comment is fine : Alex still appears amateur over eager, unable to "read a situation" ie to let a guest speak, slightly sycophantic and annoying delivery with the same arm gestures as the previous amateur. There are so many better professional presenters out there ....

Adrain and Christine were far better presenters, I only missed one episode while they were on; it was compulsive veiwing. These new people just dont grab my attention. I suppose it serves the BBC right for trying to mess with the format and in doing so lost the best presenting partnership on TV, and all because they wanted Chris Evans to make a fool of himself every friday. The mind boggles.

As much as I want to like Alex & Jasons style (as opposed to them as presenters because you cant really dislike them can you) I feel it may have been a career step too soon.Tonights 'interview' with Quincy Jones was cringingly trite, lacking any real purpose or information.I guess the BBC has to decide if they want to blood new presenters they'll have to consider reducing the quality of guests or I fear the show will become embarrasing to all concerned.As for the Chris Evans element - please ditch.What he may have done years ago (TFI Friday & Toothbrush)worked because they were fresh and he could get away with having the last remains of youth on his side - now it just comes across as total drivel. Re 66: agree wih the comments about tonight's guest. However, as American guests go, Qincy was definitely one of the better ones. They're usually awful with little or no sense of humour (e.g., John Grisham back in June - probably the worst guest I've ever seen).

Re Priscilla Presley - for the second time this week on the show we have an American who thinks that the UK consists solely of England.



As a BBC licence fee payer (& UK tax payer), can I ask if the BBC has imposed some kind of 'gagging order' on Alex Jones, whereby she is instructed to let these remarks go without retort.

The Dress Alex wore om Fridays show was truly awful & totally out of place.

Does she suppose that if she shows lots of flesh no one will notice the lack of talent?

I have to say, after having watched the new pairing for quite a few times now they appear to be uncomfortable in their roles. A bit amateurish to be fair! I much preferred the pairing of Matt Baker and Gaby Logan. Can we not get them back?
