It’s been nearly a week since Holly uttered those immortal words, “The winner of The Voice is...Leanne Mitchell!” and made Leanne a signed, proper, actual, real artist. Her first week has been crazy busy but she still made time to have a chat with us today and tell us what’s been going on:
So, Leanne, how has your first week as a signed artist been?
It’s been pretty overwhelming. It’s been very, very busy but a really good experience so far.
What sort of things have you been up to?
On Sunday I went up to Manchester to do BBC Breakfast on Monday, which was great. Since then I’ve done hundreds of radio interviews, magazine interviews, I’ve been interviewed on Radio 1, lots of TV including MTV and T4 – it’s been a whirlwind. Yesterday I filmed my very first music video – that was an experience. It’s quite weird having everybody looking at you and miming over your track for the video. The video’s got a 50s vintage feel and they even gave me a little male model!!
What are your plans for your music?
I’m looking forward to getting back to the music bit! I’m not sure yet what’s happening but we’ve got a big meeting on Monday about it all – I should be going into the studio pretty soon. I’d like to make music that I like doing like bluesy, soulful stuff. The songs I write have an old school feel.
Any chance of a rest any time soon?
I think I’ve got two days off coming up but no chance for a big rest. There’s loads to think about and everything’s happening quickly so I want to make sure I’m making the right decisions and thinking properly about what I’m doing
Any advice for anyone thinking of applying for series 2?
DO IT! If I can do it anyone can! It doesn’t matter how far you get in the process it’ll still be an experience worth having.
