Was the Mowgli interlude one big frustrating tease?

Listeners have been waiting with bated breath this week: when will Hayley confront Roy with the ‘Locket of Doom’? And after Jess called Rob, when would she reappear?

In other news, is Vicky being selfish to insist that she, Mike and Bethany move to Birmingham?

Here’s my pick of the listener discussions between 28 August and 3 September 2014.

Lancelot, Napoleon, Merlot, Sue… listeners have donned their thinking caps and thought up alternatives for Mowgli Bellamy’s name (will Leonie opt for Montezuma, perhaps?). Leonie’s strategy for motherhood, and Lilian’s quips had many laughing out loud (and a few grinding their teeth!)

@BBCTheArchers I'd best take some paracetamol, The thought of a sugary baby shower is giving me a toothache. #TheArchers (@Airscaper on Twitter)

And there was me thinking Leonie couldn't be any more irritating. #thearchers(@jamspangle on Twitter)

Is Leonie of this world? (Jane Phillips on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Is it just me that thought the episode was a hoot? Nearly spat my drink out at 'Montezuma'!!! (Victoria Heyes on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

What about Woolfgang Anaerobic Digester Bellamy. Linda does miss that lama. (Mandy Kennedy on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

I love the name mowgli! #TheArchers#JustSaying (@kennykoalabear on Twitter)

Comedy is one thing but farce is quite another. No reason why characters can't have comedic elements but I just feel we are moving from one sensation to another.. (Liz Kingdom on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

James and Leonie are wonderfully preposterous. #thearchers#montezuma (@lindasgrant on Twitter)

I am LOVING Leoni & James with their baby. Tonight's script made me laugh out loud a lot. Mint! @BBCTheArchers#thearchers (@Kate_MB on Twitter)

I can't stand any more Brookfield worthiness or Ambridge Hall twee-ness. I want to hear more about Roy/Lizzie shagness #thearchers (@PoshTigress on Twitter)

And so to life after Loxfest… Many guessed that Freddie meant for Hayley to open the envelope that Elizabeth had meant for Roy – but most have been shouting at the radio. Why hasn’t she confronted Roy with its contents: the ‘locket of doom’?

ah freddy, crafty move #thearchers (@beckyballball on Twitter)

Locket of doom!! (Sue Pidgeon on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Freddie, the go-between! How could it possibly go wrong? @BBCTheArchers (@janeknitsart on Twitter)

Tbh that's the only part I am relishing - Freddie turning into THE EVIL TWIN ! (Trisha Lesley McCarthy on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Freddie.. the worst accomplice in an illicit love affair. Good job I'd pulled off the motorway. #gasp#thearchers (@Sarahbeachcom on Twitter)

Over at Blossom Hill Cottage. Rob’s call from Jess on Thursday had many wondering if she was pregnant…

Ooh!! Jess! #TheArchers (@AndromP on Twitter)

How long have they been apart! *quick count on fingers* #pregnant? #thearchers (@TheGrumpyBitch on Twitter)

If Jess is pregnant from that encounter around Valentine's Day that makes her almost seven months, so she took her time telling him and, I can't bear any more pregnancies at the moment. (Ann Brosnan on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Just when I think Rob might NOT be evil, he does something sinister! IS HE EVIL OR NOT??? #thearchers (@tormalore on Twitter)

Bad @BBCTheArchers leaving us on that cliffhanger! #whatwilljessssay (@natnatb00m on Twitter)

By Sunday, Hayley still hadn’t said anything to Roy

Say it Hayley, say it! #thearchers (@sheepurs on Twitter)

#thearchers If the SW's keep me hanging on for too much longa (sic) - I shall stamp to my room and play loud Nirvana. (@JoodiG on Twitter)

I think it's sad and actually quite true to life. She's scared. Her mind is racing as she thinks of all the scenarios that could be played out once she asks the question. But is she ready for the answer? (Sally Yerbury-Brown on Archers Addicts Facebook group)

Poor Hayley. It's so easy to get caught up in the drama and forget a real person is suffering. #thearchers (@Tootinginnit on Twitter)

He will realise too late exactly what he has thrown away. Hayley will want a divorce and he will end up alone as Elizabeth finds someone more interesting/wealthy. (Sarah Barnard on Archers Addicts Facebook group)

#thearchers at its finest tonight: unresolved tensions, unspoken emotions: "the half-explored, half-buried interior lives of country folk".. (@nickswarb on Twitter)

On Monday…

@BBCTheArchers don't think I've forgotten Jess's call to Rob. #hardlysleeping (@adangerousage on Twitter)

There are too many cliffhangers in #thearchers . Is Jess still on the line? What has Hayley done with the locket? What else was in envelope (@DoctorAngry on Twitter)

And by Wednesday, many had reached their own boiling point…

I want Jess and/or The Locket and will stamp my feet if neither are featured on #TheArchers tonight. (@MagneticFlea on Twitter)

Come on! When's Hayley going to stomp into Lizzie's lair and tell her what she thinks of her? #thearchers (@modicana on Twitter)

In other news, Vicky’s idea that she, Mike and Bethany move to Birmingham has raised a few eyebrows – should she consider Mike’s feelings? And many have questioned her views on Beth’s schooling

Am I alone in thinking Vicki is being selfish here? Strongly suspect her motives. #thearchers (@busydawn on Twitter)

Remember Vicky and the issue of Betty's garden? An iron fist in a velvet glove. She has to have her way #thearchers (@Anne_O on Twitter)

Mike: 'a school's a school'. No it isn't. Believe me. #thearchers (@AnnaEdwa on Twitter)

This evening I began to lose patience with Vicky ~ does she really think a large city school is going to be the most pleasant option for Bethany, as opposed to a local school with children she probably has already met.. Mike's family is in Ambridge.. she shouldn't be breaking it apart. (Jean Bell on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Having taught in a village school and also inner city schools, in my experience the village school far exceeded the city schools in S.E.N emotional and social care. The only advantage of a city school is that there are probably more children with additional needs. (Ann Stokes on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

With Mike's business going down the pan retirement and Birmingham might not seem a bad idea. And Vicky moved for Mike. Why shouldn't Mike move for Bethany and Vicky (and sorry but special needs kids are far better catered for in the city). If Hayley and Roy split maybe she would rather go back to Brum too.
