Jess arrives in Ambridge, with a bump! Susan’s gossip delighted listeners. Freddie gets a round of applause, Roy gets torn off a strip. And it’s hello Johnny! A breath of fresh air at Bridge Farm, but listeners are worried for his safety…

Here’s my pick of the listener discussions between 4 and 10 September 2014.

Knock, knock. It’s Jess! Listeners were agog as she turned up at Blossom Hill Cottage. Some were surprised that she was pregnant, others that she was still alive…

*GASP* OH MY ACTUAL JESS. #thearchers (@AckleyLewis on Twitter)

Jess has crawled out from underneath the patio #likebanquosghost#thearchers (@SirBlimleyWindy on Twitter)

I can't stop smiling! It's perfect! #TheArchers#jess (@stephenhewson on Twitter)

@BBCTheArchers I was in a cab when jess revealed pregnancy, cab driver nearly drove off the road hands to his face! Swiftly back on wheel! (@sharivahl on Twitter)

Oh my goodness. Shouting out from the U.S. to beg Helen to leave Rob. Please!!!!! Lol. (Gabrielle Howard on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

We still don't know where Rob was on Valentines day, and we do know he spent another night with Jess.... I think Helen is biding her time, and is going to let Jess insist on the paternity test, so she can be the victim (again!) (Helena Sadler BBC The Archers Facebook page)

I'm not going to say too much but Helen has always been a bad picker. @BBCTheArchers (@KirstieMAllsopp on Twitter)

Rob and Helen are both neurotic but their neuroses seem to fit well together and I hope that they will stay together. Obviously if Jess's baby is Rob's it will be a big challenge .. but their love (and neurotic need - the two get all tangled up) may win through even if it is Rob's baby. (Bessy on The Archers blog)

@BBCTheArchers Please someone save Helen! Pat? Lovely Ian? Someone? #thearchers (@lauradavies24 on Twitter)

'Rob' is the creepiest character I think we have come across in the Archers for a very long time, long may the story line continue! (Tabby on The Archers blog)

Serious tweet alert: Finding Rob's masterful demonstration of psychological bullying genuinely upsetting. Hateful hateful man. #thearchers (@GreavsieE17 on Twitter)

Coercive control is not as uncommon as people may think & Rob is playing the part very well!! (Anne Buchanan on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

On Sunday night, listeners tuned in with bated breath, hoping to find out whether Rob really was a thoroughly bad lot – and should Helen insist on a paternity test for Jess’s baby?

I have very exciting plans tonight, that I have been looking forward tor for AGES - all on hold for Jessgate in #thearchers (@caracourage on Twitter)

Our breath is so bated, some of us have stopped breathing. (@paulinewallin1 on Twitter)

I feel sorry for Rob, he's trying his best. Ok he may have made a mistake but he's more than trying his best now - isn't he?? (Julia Emmah Newman on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Helen; 'I don't see any need for a paternity test'......... you gormless woman!! (Rowena Bentley on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

She's a poor judge of character, and terrified of her relationship 'failing'. A perfectionist - hence the eating disorder. I feel a bit sorry for her. She really needs a trustworthy friend. (Christy Fearn on Archers Addicts Facebook group)

Susan’s gossip-fest – all about Jess’s visit to Ambridge – was thoroughly enjoyed

I totally heart Susan Carter. There, I've said it. #thearchers (@DustySubstances on Twitter)

Susan gossiping with Clarrie tonight was an absolute joy; laughed out loud at some of their lines! (Sue Gedge on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Susan should work at GCHQ. Her communication network is world class. #thearchers (@willemharvey on Twitter)

That's why Susan's hair so big- it's full of secrets! #TheArchers#AmbridgeMeanGirls (@Emily_Thomas73 on Twitter)

Freddie got a round of applause after he told Elizabeth that he and Lily were disgusted at her affair with Roy (aka “the hobbit”)

"YOU'RE FILTH! BOTH OF YOU!" Ouch. #TheArchers(@LReb82 on Twitter)

Freddie was pure genius tonight! (Marian Bailey on Archers Addicts Facebook group)

Haha! Roy the Hobbit and / or Gollum! The Pargetter twins have shot up in my estimation tonight. #thearchers (@janewright on Twitter)

So we all having a whip round for Freddie so he can buy ..err..whatever his teenage heart desires. #thearchers(@Firehorse_on_SL on Twitter)

Am I the only one annoyed at Elizabeth for letting her children tell her how to run her own adult life? I think if my own teenager treated me the way Freddie treats Elizabeth I'd ship him off to join the army and learn some respect. (Rachel Trimble on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

#thearchers Did Freddie expect his mother to be celibate forever? Or is this more a matter of taste? (@SteveBrooks13 on Twitter)

Listeners think Roy has got his just deserts after Elizabeth told him to find a new job. But many think it’s time Elizabeth got her comeuppance

Hop off hobbit (Andrew Guy Moreton on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

I'm not sticking up for Roy the toe rag ,but she can't sack him can she? (Sue Pidgeon on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Elizabeth you have served Roy up good and proper after messing him about for weeks! Shame on you, utterly disgraceful!! @BBCTheArchers(@andyfoxto on Twitter)

Funny how neither Elizabeth or Roy has given any thought to how Hayley's job stands. Self absorbed or what! (Lindsay Philippa on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Tell you what, if Hayley doesn't end up strangling Roy with the flamin' locket, I'm gonna feel cheated. (Lucy McGough on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Actress playing Hayley is playing it so beautifully. I am so sad for her (Barbara Bates on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Young Johnny has been welcomed by most as a breath of fresh air. But listeners have a warning for him…

I think he’s a grand lad (Alison Kay on Archers Addicts Facebook group)

I hope for some 'happy' story lines that might actually be farm related. Really enjoyed the cows & Johnnie :). (Julia Matthews on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Oh bluddy hell. Johnny's here to stay, isn't he? Pat and Tony's new project. #thearchers (@MsAlliance on Twitter)

Give Tony time, I think he'll probably alienate this one as well. (Fiona Caroline Messenger on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

There would be a certain irony in Tom returning to find his nose pushed out of joint. Just like Tony in PegLegs will. (Barry Turner-Newall on Archers Addicts Facebook group)

Ooooh Rob's not going to be pleased that the Bridge Farm heir apparent is on the scene #thearchers@BBCTheArchers (@AnneLiddon on Twitter)

I'll just warn Johnny not to go hunting with Rob. (Jean Bell on BBC)

So how is Rob going to get rid of Johnny? Surely people will start to suspect if another heir vanishes? #thearchers (@ThereSheRides on Twitter)

And the quote of the week goes to Johnny for telling Pat and Tony he’d had “a cup of tea and a waz in Hollerton”

A wazz? A WAZZ?!!! @bbcthearchers (@AdvertiserSue on Twitter)

'A whaz in Hollerton'. Hollerton's Tourist Board PR campaign working well, I see #thearchers (@lomelindi12 on Twitter)

Remember this day, which will be known through the generations as the day #thearchers first used the word 'waz' (@snim2 on Twitter)
