The Strictly Final Live in 3D!

ok, but I can still see the Final right? I live in Dublin and my telly is not even close to 3D enabled...

Thank you Natrick. I live in Cork and My telly is not 3D. I have HD. But If I can't watch the final of my favourite programme, i be giving out. What use are the cinemas listed to people who live in the Republic.



BAsically, I have the same question that comment one have people who do not have 3D tv or can not go to the nearest cinema, Can we still watch the final.

I have BBC HD and I have BBC one as normal could I still watch it on The BBC HD Channel or do I have to watch it on the BBC One Channel.

Will it be as good as Wembley...

Try reading the para two again, again and again.... it really is clear.

Actually it isn't very clear in para 2. It makes no mention about normal viewing which is what people are worried about. I'm quite sure that the normal broadcast will happen as well, the 3D broadcast on the HD channel and in cinemas is an extra experimental thing the BBC are trying out. There is no way that the BBC would dare not broadcast the final in the normal way - they'd drop too many viewers!

If you have a HD tv with 3D and you watch BBC-HD you will see SCD in 3D - UNLESS you have turned off the 3D on your tv. In the latter case you will then ONLY see SCD in normal 2D-HD.



If you are watching BBC-HD on a HD-TV then you will see SCD in HD.

Seems us Midlanders aren't being catered for either for reason! Click the link above for Birmingham and you go to the Odeon website which only lists Belfast, Cardiff, Covent Garden, Dunfermline and Manchester! Gutted!

How nice the BBC found a cinema somewhere in East Anglia - one of the biggest areas in the country and not one venue, tsk tsk! We always seem to be forgotten about :(

Right, I am understanding from the information that three channels will be showing scd that day. BBC One, BBC One HD and then BBC HD- being the 3D broadcast.



It's great that they're doing this but a real shame that there are not more cinemas doing 3D showings. My nearest one is 90 minutes away on the train.

I saw the ad for cinema showings in 3D would like to have treated my wife who is a strictly no1 fan but I live in sussex which as it is in the south of england and has no showings at all could it be the bbc is biased against the south as in other things. I couldn't possibly comment!

I live in Newcastle upon Tyne the most important place in the whole country and it isn't even showing in a cinema here, in fact not anywhere in the whole of the North East!!!!!! Outrageous!!

So what about Kent? Sigh....so many of my friends, family and work friends wanted to go to the cinema to see this in 3D but the closest cinema is in London.

They can put Harry Potter and dancing penguins in nearly every cinema in the country but not Strictly?

Will a freesat HD box the Humax HDR connected to a 3d TV via HDMI work or does the TV need to have freesat built in?

I think unless the BBC could have enabled more cinemas across the county to have the 3D facility they shouldn't have had this faciity it's just too unfair so many people i.e. Jessica at 15 . not available anywhere in the North East! Kent, Lincolnshire etc.

BBC 1 Terrestrial (if you still have that)

BBC 1 various cable providers



And yes, if you have Sky, a 3D TV and an HD box you can see Strictly in 3D on the BBC HD channel.

The lack of cinemas showing the final isn't really the bbc's fault, only cinemas that have a licence and satellite can show these types of performances and unfortunately at the minute there aren't that many. I work at a cinema myself, and we've been waiting to have the necessary equipment installed for over a year now but it keeps being pushed back. Honestly though i don't see the attraction of 3D and paying at least a tenner a ticket for something you can watch for free in the comfort of your own home.

In fact, HD is a waste of money when they're making cuts. Scrap it and just broadcast SD.



The real problem is making TV programmes in Colour - how much extra does this cost? Let's go back to black and white TV.



Pictures - what frivolity, pictures _and_ sound?! Stick it all on the radio. Close BBC TV down altogether - this is no time for such reckless spending.



Speech and music on the radio? For goodness sake! There are cheaper ways to get the important information across - send it all in Morse code! One channel of Morse code giving all the news anyone could ever want.



If you are extravagant enough to want more, pay Sky whatever they ask for it.



There - that'll save some money and keep everyone happy.

I'll be enjoying the 1920x1080 broadcasts all week, I'm really looking forward to Strictly in 3D (it's been crying out for it IMO), and will be interested to see 50fps on iPlayer at last - that would be a good option for all sport/dancing/etc on there, even in 2D.

My point is can I watch it on BBC HD without it being 3D. Some one mention the Isle of Man , What about the channel Islands

Of course the BBC should try 'experimental broadcasts' Without them we wouldn't have had large scale outside broadcasts (the BBC's coverage of the Coronation in 1953 was the first experiment in multi-camera OB), colour TV or HD TV.



But... it is not clear whether the 3D broadcast on BBC1HD will be viewable on non-3D HD TVs or whether it will look like the blurry image you get when watching 3D movies without the special glasses.



If the programme is unwatchable on a standard 3D TV, this is unnacceptable. Many people have invested in HD TVs for the obvious increase in picture quality both from live broadcasts and Blu-Ray discs - there are far fewer 3D capable TVs in use. To deprive standard HD viewers of SCD final in HD is unforgiveable.



But I may be wrong - the BBC needs to clarify this urgently.



As for cinema showings, this would be fascinating, The cinema experience is a whole different thing to watching at home - I've seen a number of TV dramas on a cinema screen and I know how different it is. However, these dramas were projected from the original film they were shot on and not from a video tape through a TV projector. It would be interesting to see how even an HD signal holds up on a big screen. Even when movies are shot on digital cameras and projected using a digital projector, the resolution is far higher than HD TV so there could be some disappointment if people are expecting the same image quality they get from a movie.



But the fundamental question that has to be asked is why bother? 3D, both in the cinema and on TV is a gimmick that adds nothing to viewing experience and often detracts from it. I've seen 3D TV on demonstration in a local retailer and it has left me totally underwhelmed.

I am very dissappointed to see there is no venue in Somerset. I am surprised by the lack of venues. Please can you get in touch with more venues to see if they would be willing to sh.ow it. Thank you a lot of people will be happy if you could make this possible

i am very disappointed that not only is the final in our home town of blackpool and,1 we carnt get tickets but 2 there is no venues here showing it in 3d and we have 3 cinima outlets.come on bbc at least get now on board

What about Bristol or Bath?!! Very disappointed Bbc - not everyone has HD or wants to travel miles & miles to watch it in 3d!! :(

BBC HD (169) is a different channel to BBC One HD (143), therefore I believe you should be able to watch it in HD even if you don't have 3D

Wow there's a lot of complaining on this thread! I think it sounds really good and it's nice to see it being tried out in smaller places as well as the big cities. Looking forward to it! And well done to the folks at the BBC for giving something a go :)

Am in total agreement with StuartHX, it really is not clear if HD picture quality will be affected if you are watching on a none 3D TV. I assume that it will not, but can the BBC please give clear clarification that there will be no problem with HD quality for a none 3D viewer? I actually have no wish to view in 3D, and would consider it unacceptable if I was deprived of HD quality on my HD TV. I just hope ArchAngel02 knows more than I do!

Am very concerned tht even though I can still probably watch it in normal tv the option of HD has been taken away just so the bbc can test 3d which not many people can afford.

I really would like to watch the final in 3D. I live in Bournemouth, which has a large, 3D-capable ODEON cinema. It also is the centre of panto, Ballroom and Latin dance - almost as big as Blackpool Tower ballroom in it's heyday where my Mum and Dad met, and danced, regularly.



Whilst it is apparent that the BBC simply cannot accommodate ALL venues for an experimental, first-time transmission - surely this one (showing in Bournemouth) is a no-brainer? The majority of the venues being supported seem to be centred around the voting concentrations for the competitors' home vote - look at the number of Welsh venues (for Alex). The South and South West are pretty poorly catered for (with the exception of Taunton).



Come on Beeb, a little more thought should have gone into this instead of just looking at telephone vote statistics... even a random poll of 20+ friends who saw yesterday's show says that they would all like to see it 3D - but no-one in this group is able to due to cash, commitments, family, etc. What a shame.



What a missed opportunity - sigh: I shall have to sit and watch the pain and the pleasure in front of this tiny little screen again....

As far as I can tell we will not be able to watch in HD as that channel will be used for the 3D transmission. Keeping in mind who pays the outdated licence fee would someone from the BBC please tell us when they had a referendum of BBC and or strictly viewers that came to the conclusion that a majority wanted a 3D transmission of the final at the expense of losing HD coverage. ?

The Odeon link is working OK now and the drop down displays Birmingham in the list - so for those who are able to travel to Birmingham you can easily book tickets now - I've booked mine, woohoo! :-)

I would have thought, as Vincent and Flavia both hail from Guildford in Surrey, and although they are not actually in the final, that the ODEON in Guildford would show the live 3D show...that cinema being fully equipped for showing such screenings. Poor show BBC, even my home town of Liverpool doesn't get a look in. They tout it as being in 3D but how many people can afford 3D TV in these straitened times? It should have had much wider coverage over the whole of the British Isles. The BBC definitely need to pull their socks up and take advantage of the popularity of this show. As for Bruce...I think it's time to go time. We've loved him, and now it's time to leave. I nominate John Barrowman to take over. Get rid of Claudia Winkleman, she adds nothing at all. Likewise Tess Daly...accent exaggerated and too much slap. There must be better presenters who do not want to hog the limelight.

Sheffield is one f the cities and the Odeon isnot covering this very dissapointed will not be going there again.

I Beleive the BBC has not thought this through properly. Why so few cinemas when clearly there are many more who are capable of showing the programme? I come from a small town on the coast, so there is no chance of anything exciting happenning within 80 mile radius, but to miss out the major cities is crazy. How much money is being lost? With an average audience of 11million someone should have realised there would be a demand for seats.



I don't think 3d is all that, and is just a bit of a gimmick. But to sit in cinema, surrounded by like minded fans would be a fabulous experience i would really enjoy.

If you have BBC HD channel and a 3D-enabled TV, you can view it in 3D.



If you don't have a 3D TV, watch it as normal on either BBC One or BBC One HD. There, easy! Please take a minute to think about these things...

If you have an HD TV, you will still be able to watch the show as normal, in HD.



There are two HD channels - BBC One HD and BBC HD. BBC One HD will show the normal broadcast, in 2D, and high definition.



The BBC HD channel (which is on a separate channel number) will show the 3D version of the broadcast. So no one is missing out on anything. And if you don't have HD, then the ordinary BBC One will have the standard def version.



On Freeview, it works out like this:



Channel 1: BBC One, Strictly in 2D, standard def

Channel 50: BBC One HD, Strictly in 2D, high def (Virgin/Freesat 108, Sky 143)

Channel 54: BBC HD, Strictly in 3D, high def (Virgin 187, Freesat 109, Sky 169)



As for the cinemas, it's not quite as simple as saying that any cinema that can have the latest feature films in 3D should be able to show Strictly. Feature films aren't live, and can be distributed to cinemas via hard disks and couriers, or a slower broadband or satellite link.



Live 3D needs each cinema that's showing it to have an appropriate link, and the equipment to feed signals from that link straight to the projector, rather than saving it (as they do for a feature film).



And far fewer cinemas have all that, than have the facilities to receive 3D and show it later.



The BBC has no control whatsoever over what the cinema in a particular town installs, and they certainly can't spend licence fee money to subsidise a commercial cinema chain.



If it's not available in 3D in your local cinema, the people to complain to are the cinema - tell them how disappointed you are that they can't participate in this, and future events, like some of the Olympics and even some of the shows from theatres and opera houses that are also transmitted in this way.



Unless people tell their cinemas they do want more than just Hollywood blockbusters, they're not going to invest in the kit to do this sort of thing. It really, honestly, is down the cinema owners, not some bizarre BBC conspiracy to favour certain parts of the country over others.

So there are plans for a BBC 3D channel then?

We wish that it hadn't been made such a fuss of on the programme without explaining that only very few cinemas were going to take part - there are none in Norfolk or Suffolk at all. If we really wanted to go - it is 3 hours to Birmingham or 5 hours to Manchester. I only know of 2 friends who have 3D TVs too at this point - we've only just gone over the digital switchover in the past 3 weeks so most friends have been waiting to see how that goes before thinking of updating equipment in the new year. Very, very disappointing BBC.

I tried to book tickets for our local cinema and then realised my 8 year old daughter might not be allowed in as they are showing it as a 12 certificate!!!!! She's been watching Strictly since she was 5

I am trying to book two tickets for Covent Garden but, although it is not showing as sold out, I keep getting the message "Alhough this film is not showing at your chosen cinema you can see it at one of the following ODEONs:". I highlight Covent Garden, press Go but keep coming back to this message. Is there a problem with the site or are tickets sold out?

What is show up in my Sky programmes for Saturday that it is normal 2D on the BBC one HD( 141) and the 3D on the BBC HD (143), so I am happy.

If you have a 3D TV u need to switch to the BBC HD Channel instead.

That's disgraceful, what about Edinburgh and Glasgow...hello, Scotland is still part of Britain, we didn't get our independence yet and we do have 3D cinema here :( You expect us all to travel to Dunfermline...apart from a vague guess of that's up north in Fife I don't have a clue...even if you are just restricting it to Odeon we still have Odeon in Edinburgh and Glasgow, even Dumfries... Ridiculous indeed to expect us all to fit in one cinema.

So if you have an 3D TV and choose to watch it back via the i-player, with it linked to the TV, do we get it in 3D? This will be the first time we have actually seen anything on 3D on the TV if that is the case!

Not every cinema can show. Whilst they may be able to show films in 3D, they won't necessarily have the means to live stream in 3D.



For everyone else who is worried, if you don't have HD or 3D, you can still watch it on BBC1, it will be like any other Saturday night.

It makes me laugh how so many people are complaining. Most weeks you all sit in your front rooms and watch without a complaint in the world. The BBC decide to do something different and move forward and everyone complains about watching it front of their small screens!!. Surely thats down to your decision on TV buying!!



It is not like the BBC are not showing SCD in HD or SD they have introduced something amazing by offering an extra service and all people can do is moan.

Very disapointed at the lack of screens available in Scotland. Dunfermline!!!!! Really. Not really very accessable for everyone. Concidering we have a population of 5m people I would thought there would have been more than 1. Should have had one the West coast of Scotland ie. Glasgow. Sort it out please BBC.

I think its the chain of cinemas that BBC has hooked up with that is the problem. Mostly all cineworld and vue cinemas are Digital ones, therefore with the most chance of being 3D enabled. Most Odeon and Apollo cinemas, though i could be wrong here, are still using the old fashioned projector style. Like i said i'm no expert.



If they had hooked up with Vue or Cineworld, then most areas would have been covered, but its probably all down to cost for the cinema companies.



Thats my opinions anyway, but i can understand why some people are upset about not seeing it in their areas. I'm from yorkshire (hull) and one of the largest counties and not got one screen, disappointed is one word for it!!

I think it's fab that the BBC are utilising the BBC HD channel for 3D, from what I can gather SCD will be shown on BBC 1 Standard Definition, BBC 1 HD High Definition and BBC HD in 3D HD also being shown on cinemas in 3D throughout the country - and people are moaning on here!

P.S. 89 the 3D image picure on BBC HD will view as two images squashed together you need to set you 3D TV to decode the images and overlap them(normally a 3D button on your remote) so you will see the blurry 3D image corrected when you wear your 3D glasses

Like many have said, what a lot of moaners. This is an EXPERIMENT - the BBC are NOT taking anything away from the coverage, but trying out something new for the future.



Their only fault is in not making it clear that the 3D HD broadcast is on the BBC HD channel while normal 2D HD coverage is on the BBC1 HD channel. I'm surprised that although this blog has been up for a week or more, the introduction hasn't been amended to make this clear.



As for the cinemas, again this is also an experiment. I think it must be the first time that a major Saturday night TV show has ever been shown live in the cinema. The bizarre choice of venues is down to the fact that these are the only ones with the necessary reception equipment to show Strictly and nothing to do with influencing votes, etc.



What is interesting is that, if this experiment is successful, it could lead to more high profile TV shows being shown on the big screen. I'd love to see dramas such as Dr Who, Merlin, even perhaps Downton Abbey or documentaries such as Frozen Planet in the cinema - it would be a whole new experience and perhaps even a money spinner which the BBC could use supplement its programme production budget.

Why does Wales get three venues and anybody South of London one? Utterly ludicrous. Also, a lot of elderly people who enjoy the programme are worried about whether they will still be albe to see it. The BBC have not made things clear at all.

Well, I'm on BBC HD on Sky's platform, and my TV is in 3D mode, but I'm seeing absolutely no 3D whatsoever. I've tried horizontal and vertical mode, but I'm getting nothing. Well done whoever didn't flip the switch.

BBC whats going on my 3d TV has not recived the signal to convert to 3d was so lookimg forward to this momentous event we are even holding a litte party to celebrate, but no 3d, is the 3d function omly working on sky platform,as its not working through virgin hd or the BBC hd channel

On freeview its channel 54 not the usual 51 so maybe others are on different channels. I have only just managed to sort mone now, but it is good!!

I was watching in 3D at home, but the broadcast wasnt good enough. everytime camera changed it reverted back to 2D. got bored and turned back to BBC1 after 15 mins.
