Children in Need Gala Night Poster

Children in Need 2010 is fast approaching and as always I urge you to get on board and give your full support to Workplace’s fundraising efforts at this time.

Following the success of last year, we will be hosting another ONE Workplace Gala Evening on 18 November 2010 at BBC Television Centre. Planned to be one of the most exciting events of the year, bigger and better than before, it really will be a night to remember.

The event will feature live music, entertainment, dancing, and a high-profile charity auction. As well as some special celebrity guests and star performances, Pudsey Bear will make an exclusive appearance, accompanied by his special guest friend!

Tickets for the event can now be reserved. Numbers are limited so get in there quick and secure your place at what will be one of the most exciting events of the year for the ONE Workplace team.

A key characteristic of this year’s campaign is the emphasis on working with the entire Workplace supply chain as partners. The campaign will have a pan UK focus and will aim to include everyone in Workplace.

There have already been some fantastic individual and team-driven fundraising efforts up and down the UK across ONE Workplace which will help us towards our £150,000 target. Bike rides, mountain climbing, football tournaments cake sales, reverse bungees, quizzes, team challenges and much more. But we really do need your support. Why not organise an event or activity within your team or set yourself an individual challenge? Or can you help source prizes or sponsorship? As always, volunteers, ideas and suggestions are welcome.

Finally, keep an eye out for official Children in Need merchandise that will soon be available to buy at receptions across the estate.

Thank you in advance for supporting this hugely worthwhile cause.

On Monday evening at a glitzy BIFM Awards dinner at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, ONE Workplace was in the spotlight for two awards.

I felt a strong sense of satisfaction and pride to see industry-wide recognition for our partnering efforts of the last few years. It was also fitting for the members of the One Workplace team to be able to celebrate their efforts with recognition from an audience featuring all the major players from the British Facility Management industry.

First up was the Andy Bello led team who worked on what we know as Project Rambo. In the face of stiff competition they won the Innovation in Technology and Systems award. The judges recognised the simple software tool as a truly innovative solution that delivers major benefits in that critical but often misunderstood area of risk management and safety.

Not to be outdone by the guys, Customer Business Director Rebecca Carruthers, who leads the W12 FM team was shortlisted for the prestigious FM of the year award. The award recognises outstanding performance and dedication. Rebecca was highly commended in the category and recognised as runner-up from a field of 12 of the best FMs in the UK. Although a little disappointing not to have secured the top award, this is an amazing achievement and so many congratulations to Rebecca who I hope will be very proud of her achievement.

For us at BBC Workplace these awards give recognition to all partners in the supply chain – Balfour Beatty Workplace, Johnson Controls and the BBC itself have worked together as true partners. No doubt the judges saw this as a beacon for how things can be done in the future.

I’m sure you will join me in congratulating Rebecca and the Rambo team who have truly lived up to the spirit of ‘ONE Workplace’.

Leaving Salford

A big well done to the Pedal for Pudsey cycling trio of Dave Lang, Pete Mathieson and Richard Seago who completed their cycling challenge at the beginning of this month for Children in Need. The team has raised over £1500 so far.

Ably supported by driver Kevin Atkinson in a specially branded Pudsey van, it took the team less than 48 hours to get from MediaCity, Salford (pictured right) to BBC Bristol via BBC’s Manchester, Birmingham and Gloucester stopping overnight twice.

The cycle computers varied but they covered somewhere between 183 and 190 miles in total, at just under 15mph average speed!

The team would like to say thanks to everyone who came to see them and wish them well on their journey and especially to those who supported them financially.
