Cheery greetings from the estate where signs of heat are everywhere. Suntan creams, ants, burnt arms and discarded salad abound. A warm weekend consisted of a trip to a Danish brick-themed adventure park, followed by Bruce Springsteen last night. I am, as a result, sun kissed(or pink and blotchy, depending on whether you're squinting or not). The Boss was magnificent of course. In the unusual surroundings of the Olympic village (why not the stadium?) which felt more like an eastern European Communist plaza than east London, he sang the whole of Born In The USA, danced with his mother, sang with his sister and led us through most of the classics we came to hear. The thing with Bruce is he does it all with such style and joy, he carries all before him. He's 63 for heavens sake, looks fantastic (Mrs M slightly too enthusiastic on this point) and his voice is as rich as ever.

Enough already.

Show day after the enforced absence of Friday and back with a book club offering 'The String Diaries' by Stephen Lloyd Jones. And is a splendid, scary ride through Hungarian myths and terrifying journey for a woman trying to protect her daughter. A great debut-read some now while you're here!

And INVISIBLE oldies please as the physicist Prof Sir John Pendry has received the Newton Medal for his work on a real invisibility cloak which guides light around an object, rendering it invisible. Nice one prof!

Have a cheery and optimistic Monday, see you after 5
