Warm with a promise of hot. I’ll miss these swifts when they’re gone-they really are the best way to wake up. Really they screech but it’s a beautiful, summer screeching (and yes there’s a Taylor Swift joke there but it would be unfair and wrong. And Tom Hiddleston would be very cross). So good weekend maybe? The achievement prize in this house goes to child 1 who, like one of our callers on Monday, rode the Dunwich Dynamo, cycling 120 miles through the night from Hackney in London to the Suffolk coast. Book Club time with Caroline Brothers and ‘The Memory Stones’. Caroline has been a respected foreign correspondent in Europe and South America and now she has written a stunning novel set in Argentina of the 1970s. The Memory Stones tells the story of The Disappeared, thousands of Argentinians who fell victim to the violence of the period. We follow one family seeking to rebuild itself and it is pretty unforgettable stuff from Caroline. There is a chapter right here if you wish to sample.

And lets try some BFG oldies please! It was the premiere last night of the new Stephen Spielberg adaptation of the Roald Dahl classic and Mark Rylance is definitely 22 feet tall. Any Big Friendly Giant whizzpopin’ tunes for me?
