Going for Bronze

Morning all, cold Tuesday here to be followed by a colder Wednesday by the looks of it. Hope all good with you. Yesterday ended up having a life of its own as the show I envisaged when I typed at 7.30 obviously didn’t hold much comparison with the show that appeared at 5pm. By the time we got to mid-morning it seemed right to not have a guest at all but just play Bowie songs and take calls. So many people just wanted to say something (as many of you did right here). And when Rick said he could come in, reminisce and play the piano, that seemed just right to us. Rick has played Life On Mars for us before but wrapping our show up yesterday, it seemed particularly powerful. Plus we could also mark Ed Stewart’s passing too. (Michael Lewis has been rearranged-he understood obviously.)

So today we talk Hangmen, the big new West End hit and starring my friend David Morrissey as Harry, the second-best hangman in the the country. The play is set in Harry’s pub in Oldham in 1965 on the day capital punishment is abolished.Written by Martin McDonagh, I can report that it is quite brilliant, darkly comic and very smart. Hear DM from 6.

And how about BRONZE AGE oldies please as Britain’s best preserved bronze age dwellings dating from about 1000 BC have been found in Cambridgeshire. Jewellery, textiles and meals in pots all are getting archaeologists very excited. Your excavations welcome...
