Never liked April Fools day particularly-I'm with Matt on practical jokers. Having endured the 'hilarious' pranks on the Radio 1 Roadshow, I developed a terror of April 1st merely through being on the radio. It was expected that you'd come up with some wheeze that would be hilarious and memorable and the fact is that most of them aren't. When 1/4 fell at the weekend we all breathed a huge sigh of relief-it was someone else's problem. And as they all have to stop by midday (for some reason) you'll be safe with us. Everything ridiculous you hear is true.
Top guest today is journo and Newsnight host Kirsty Wark. She has written a novel (we're all at it) called 'The Legacy of Elizabeth Pringle', a multi-generational story set on the Isle of Arran. Kirsty's a fearless interrogator but will now be subjected to the terrifying rigour of a Drivetime after 6 interview. She may well buckle and wilt under the pressure.
And we'll have FRUIT AND VEG oldies please as we are now being told that 5-a-day may well be not enough. In truth GP friends of ours have been telling for years it should be 7 a day to get all the benefits; the Aussies have 2 fruit and 5 veg as the ideal. So let's see what we can do here.
17.00 hrs then.
