A Night In

Simon Mayo

Presenter

Good morning all and here we go with another top week of Drivetime action (btw, 34 days till the nights get shorter. This is a good thing and we need good things). I had a weekend consisting of a local history talk, a breakfast out and the Ai Wei Wei exhibition in London town. And Steve Jobs (again) so that’s quite exhausting really.

Today we rock up with another Book Club and we have another top offer from author David Mitchell. He’s been on with The Bone Clocks and now he’s back with Slade House-briefer but still brilliant. Slade House is a mysterious place accessible only from a small iron door in a disappearing alley. We visit every 9 years as another visitor get sucked into it’s dangerous walls. It’s funny and strange and a top choice-read a chapter here

And music music music! Staying with the Slade theme, the news that Porridge is back is pretty unbeatable (HMP Slade in case you had forgotten). Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais have been asked to revisit this classic sitcom, this time with Fletch being the grandson of the Ronnie Barker original. It was only around 73-77 but you have to watch a few moments again and its genius is there for all to see. PORRIDGE oldies please
