Chelsea or Man Utd. Who are the worthy winners?

Russell FullerRussell Fuller|13:15 UK time, Friday, 7 May 2010

Wimbledon did beat Liverpool to win the 1988 FA Cup final; Greece surprised us all in Euro 2004; and no-one saw James 'Buster' Douglas knocking out Mike Tyson in 1990, but I haven't spoken to a single person in football who thinks Wigan can deny Chelsea the Premier League title on Sunday.

This is despite Wigan's 3-1 victory over Chelsea at the DW Stadium earlier in the season, and their other victories over Arsenal and Liverpool. It's their away form that lets them down, having lost 9-1 at Tottenham in November, and won only three league matches on their travels all season.

Whose foot fits the Golden Boot?

A small part of me thinks they have a chance if they can prevent Chelsea from scoring early on, but it's also distinctly possible that the real drama of Sunday afternoon will be whether Didier Drogba or Wayne Rooney ends up with the Golden Boot for finishing as the Premier League's top scorer.

One debate we might have over the weekend is whether Chelsea deserve to be champions? Choosing a winner in the Premier League is much more straightforward than in the UK's General Election: the team with the most points will definitely win. This year's winning points tally will be the lowest for seven years, and while some believe we should give credit to the rest of the league for raising their game, it's clear that neither Chelsea nor Manchester United can claim to be as consistently intimidating as they have been in recent years.

Chelsea, though, have the strongest mandate to claim the title, as they have scored 95 goals, and hit seven in one match against Sunderland, Aston Villa and Stoke. And more importantly, they have also beaten all the other members of last year's top four both home and away, with a 12-1 aggregate score. So do you agree they would be worthy champions come Sunday night?

Sportsworld at the weekend

Lee James will be looking ahead to the final day of the Premier League season on Sportsworld this Saturday from 14 hours GMT, and you can call him to say how you see it on Sportsworld Have Your Say from 1730 GMT. And I'll be with you from 15 hours GMT on Sunday with commentary on the final day, and a special edition of Sportsworld Have Your Say - again from 1730 GMT.

I think Wigan Athletic will deny Chelsea another league title like they did three seasons ago. Wayne Rooney will finish as the league's top scorer.

    The Unfolding Drama
Stamford Bridge: Didier Drogba picks a niggling injury and becomes a major doubt for the World Cup. John Terry is red-carded for a blatant hand ball in the box; Wigan take the lead from the spot courtesy Charles 'The Insomniac' N'Zogbia. 10-man Chelsea lay siege in the Wigan half for most of the game but the Latics are resolute at the back. Frank Lampard loses his cool and yellow cards are in abundance. Stubborn Wigan hold on to their 1-0 lead until Malouda sneaks one in for Chelsea in the dying ambers of the game. Tears from Chelsea players; Lampard looks devastated!!!!!

Old Trafford: United are quick off the blocks as the Red Devils pepper Stoke City's goal area. Wayne Rooney gets the rout underway; the Roonatic will notch a hat-trick at the end of the day. Nani is 'Tormentor-in-chief' and constantly exposes the Potters' defensive frailties. United will eventually put five past Stoke. Wigan's goal at Stamford Bridge is greeted with great cheer at OT. Fingernail-biting time as news filter in about a Chelsea equaliser. Final whistle at Stamford Bridge; Chelsea 1-1 Wigan, the party is in full swing at Old Trafford with 2 minutes of injury time to play!!!!
Manchester United retain their Premier League title, four years in a row.....................Champions!!!!

hi Russell i am sure chelsea will definitely lift the premier league title by 6pm today. As for the golden booth Wayne Rooney stands a better chance of grabbing it than Drogba

It was great to watch spectacular goal scoring acts from Didier Drogba, Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard, Nicholas Anelka, Fernando Torres and those other wonderful strikers who made the EPL watching a celebration of life. Thanks for the glorious moments.

Chelsea look certain to lift the trophy this time BUT i think they still luck luck.they might loose the trophy by a point this season.

Manchester united is a very lucky team.they will win by a point this season.they are slow but sure though i sometimes hate them when they don't take advantage of closing the gap when other top teams are loosing.is this because of self actualization?
