Poor Charlie. He fell for Nicole hook, line and sinker. But he only had half the story - she's a youngster of fourteen! I think it's fair to say that she deliberately misled soft-hearted Mr Bowie.

The phrase 'unlucky in love' doesn't fully describe Charlie's romantic career, does, it? A long-held crush on Amber, then a dalliance with Hayley have been the sum total of this lad's attachments in Shieldinch. But maybe his fling with Annie could the start of a more fun and frivolous phase?

Having one of your patients collapse after a flu jab is a scary prospect - but that's what happened at Michael and Ruth's surgery. A mix-up with notes falling from patients' files led to this error. And Leyla was reluctant to confess, understandably. She's wanting to show her hubby that she's a great manager but keeping quiet about her mistake left Ruth taking the rap. This was not fair.

My heart went out to Ruth for having a crisis but perhaps it's for the best that Andy saw her in a vulnerable state. Mental health can be difficult to understand so let's hope Andy can begin to gain an understanding of how she must feel.

Photo of sign on The Oyster Cafe

After a very sunny start to the week it feels as if winter has come to Dumbarton.

Hat and gloves are essential survival wear to a long day's filming once again. On a frosty autumn morning on the Montego Street set, here's a feeling of being 'out of time' - walking past discarded Christmas trees propped by the boatshed feels slightly unnerving. Festive filming has been taking place - and we haven't had time to fully embrace autumn yet!

Also spotted wandering the corridors of the production office were a bunch of actors dressed as members of the military police. It's all quite odd - what can it mean?

Photo of Scarlett in The Ship

With baby-making high on the agenda at the Mullens' house, little wonder both Jimmy and Scarlett declared themselves fatigued with the whole process. Scarlett's reaction to Jimmy's attempt at romance, with a bottle of fizz and rose petals, was classic - "What's all this? You done something?" And loved Iona's expression when she overheard Raymond and Jimmy trading stories from the front line of fertile over-40s - ew!

One thing's for sure - Scarlett's original wee Bubba is missed - so here's hoping he'll be back soon.

Photo of the Cast of Single Father

River City fans might recognise some familiar faces in the David Tennant drama Single Father on Sunday nights. The ex-Time Lord Mr Tennant plays Dave, a photographer who faces the shocking sudden death of his beloved wife. The drama explores the heartache and obstacles which he faces in the difficult task of bringing up four children alone.

Jenni Keenan Green, who played femme fatale Heather Bellshaw, makes an appearance as Dave's ex-wife Michelle. Jenni talks about acting with her real-life toddler son in Single Father in this press article.

Photo of Natasha Watson

14-year-old Natasha Watson has a lead role as Dave's stepdaughter in the show. Sharp-eyed fans may recognise her from River City. She played Heather's vulnerable daughter Freya in the show five years ago. It was an emotionally demanding role as she was reunited with her birth mother and father, Heather and Duncan, so Natasha did quite a lot of weeping. The family left to make a new life in Australia.

Natasha's also appearing in the feature film Donkeys which has just been released. You can watch an interview with Natasha and her Single Father co-star Millie Innes from STV's The Hour.

Single Father is on BBC One Scotland, on Sundays at 2100.

Photo of Leyla

Looks like Michael's wife Leyla is in for a rough ride in Shieldinch. You don't mess with the O'Hara ladies, and getting off on the wrong foot with Molly isn't a great start. But Mrs Brodie has bigger problems on her plate - step-daughter Nicole looks like a handful, and what could be the story between Leyla and Gabriel?

The last we heard she'd embarked on an exciting new student life in The Big Apple, and now Jayd Johnston is returning to her native land to film a crime drama for BBC Scotland. Jayd played Nicki, wee Bob's ex-fiance and fellow mechanic, between 2004 and 2010. Talented Jayd's now been cast in one of the lead roles in 'Field of Blood'.

Adapted from the popular Denise Mina novel, crime drama Field of Blood is set in Glasgow in 1982. The story centres on would-be journalist Paddy Meehan, played by Jayd, who works in a newspaper office and becomes embroiled in a dark murder case.

Jayd says: 'I'm thrilled to be given the chance to work with such an amazing cast including Peter Capaldi, David Morrissey, Jonas Armstrong and Ford Kiernan - I know I will learn a lot from them all. The character of Paddy Meehan is amazing, she's so feisty and fierce and passionate about her work which I love about her. She's got such a good heart and just wants to do good and make a difference.'

Filming starts this week on location in Glasgow until early November. We'll keep you posted on any developments!

Two familiar faces from River City are making an appearance in STV's teen drama Being Victor. The show tells the story of the ups and downs in the life of Vinnie Dupe and his online alter-ego Victor Sage.

Sam Robertson, who played Innes Maitland, takes the part of Victor's arch enemy, lothario Danny. Laura McMonagle, familiar to River City fans from her four-year stint playing Zoe Cullen, also has a leading role in the drama as Vinnie's sister, Lesley.

Sam and Laura talked about their friendship and their experiences filming the show in The Daily Record.

Photo of Gabriel

Gabriel is proper dodgy, but I like him already. Five minutes in and he's got the entire female population of Shieldinch in a tizzy. Yip, instead of riding in on a stallion, a white van was this Prince Charming's vehicle of choice. Looks like he's going to give us some choice lines too: 'Women are like cats. You've got to let them come to you'.

Now, as I peer into my crystal ball of River City romance, the mist is beginning to clear. I'm seeing romance between Gabriel, and - who's this? Long, curly hair. Lashings of black eye-liner. It seems to be a young maiden called - Iona! Which ladies could you picture Gabriel with?

While Gabriel's charming the birds out the trees, he's not exactly top of my "Shieldinch's nicest blokes" chart! I did cheer when he got the better of moody Fraser though - was that wrong of me?

Feathers are set to be ruffled when a new family arrives in Shieldinch. The Brodies will hit our screens in early October and we've got a few details about the new characters - for your eyes only.

Andy Clark will play Shieldinch's new GP Michael Brodie. He's married to Leyla, who's played by Maryam Hamidi, and between them they have three children: Nicole, Conor and Adeeb.

Gabriel Brodie is Michael's younger brother, who loves to live by his wits. He's played by Garry Sweeney. Garry's a familiar film face from Brit-flick successes such as Late Night Shopping and Small Faces.

Looking forward to seeing what you make of the new River City residents. They move in in early October! There will be articles about the new family appearing in the papers on Sunday 3 October so keep your eyes peeled.
