hairdressers

I've got a bit of a confession to make. I haven't always been faithful to my regular hairdresser, but needs must, and if you're working abroad, you know what humidity can do to your hair - in my case reduce it to a most unattractive head of frizz. However it has afforded me the opportunity of getting my hair done in places as far apart as New York, Verona in Italy - best styling in Europe, and Cannes for fantastic colour.

But when it comes to extreme conditions and remote locations, surely no-one can top my two guests on this weeks show - Charlie Miller of the eponymous chain of hair salons in Edinburgh took out his scissors to give a wee trim to Edinburgh businessman and philanthropist Sir Tom Farmer at the North Pole - an experience he described as the coldest and quickest cut he's ever done, as well as the most amazing... It was all in a good cause - raising funds for Teenage Cancer Trust. Together they'll be talking about their inter-faith and philanthropic work and why it means so much to them.

The Bible is one of the most read books in the world - the King James version is 400 years old this May - said to have contributed more to the English language than Shakespeare, and helped spread English across the globe. I'll be exploring the cultural and religious legacy of this translation with film-maker Norman Stone

and academic Professor John Haldane.

We'll also be talking about a celebration in a European capital city - and I'm not talking Royal Weddings here. The beatification of Pope John Paul II takes place in Rome on May 1st

And finally I had a once in a lifetime opportunity to spend an afternoon in conversation with an incredible man - George Patterson is now in his 90's - and has spent his life committed to theTibetan cause and was recently honoured by the Dalai Llama - you can hear his story too.

Don't forget though to send me YOUR stories and the songs that mean something to you.
