My job as a film critic is not solely to stop you from going to see films I think are terrible or verbally bullying you into seeing the ones I love (I mean, it should be but since when did you listen to me?). I don’t have, nor would I want the ability to brainwash listeners the way that Johnny Depp and Jerry Bruchheimerseem to believe is possible after the poor box office ratings for The Lone Ranger. Weirdly, the point of being a film critic is to describe and analyse films for you, so that you can make an informed decision about whether it’s worth forking out your hard-earned cash for or if you’re better off waiting for the download. Empire compiled a list of movies that critics told you to back…away…slowly from (i.e. slammed) but you ignored their advice and went ahead to make them successful anyway. You’ll be surprised at the films on this list on the Empire website.
I mean, Scooby Doo 2 was a success? Really? Who saw that by choice?
