The internet (almost) stopped working when out of nowhere Pixies returned with new music in the form of four tracks. Since then we’ve fallen in love with them all over again as they had the the audience on Later eating out of their hands and stunned us at Maida Vale when they came in for Steve Lamacq – an exclusive performance you’ll be able to watch on the Red Button from Thursday, October 10.

Since forming in Boston in 1986, they’ve been a huge influence on alternative rock after achieving success predominantly in the UK and Europe rather than their home country.

With Black Francis fronting one of the most beloved bands in music over the past quarter of a century, what is deserving enough to make it into the Ultimate Pixies Playlist?

It’s up to you – but to help you out here are some ideas:

• Your favourite Pixies tracks, b-sides or rarieties

• Artists who they took influence from like Iggy Pop, Gang of Four, David Bowie, George Harrison or even Hank Williams

• Perhaps acts who wouldn’t sound like they do if it wasn’t for the band – Radiohead, Nirvana and U2 have all praised their work

4AD label mates – Beirut, TV on the Radio or new artists like Grimes

• Or anything from their side and solo projects

You pick the music, so let us know what you want to hear by leaving a comment here or on our Facebook page, Tweet #Pixies6Music, send us an email with your suggestion and reason to nowplaying@bbc.co.uk and add tracks to our collaborative Spotify or Rdio playlists.
