With the news online this week that independent record label XL Recordings are releasing a compilation album to mark 25 years in the business, this Sunday's themed playlist (10 Aug, 6-8pm) is an XL one. Extra Large.

In the sleeve notes to the album, XL owner Richard Russell writes: "XL Recordings is a collaborative endeavour, and many people have contributed to its evolution”. Gil Scott Heron also once said to not even consider XL an "independent" because everything is connected.
But that's just it, it is an Independent record label, which is incredible when you look at the vast and varied array of artists they have had on their books over the last 25 years.
So, what should we play?
- Tracks released on the label by artists such as Basement Jaxx, Beck, Electric Six, FKA Twigs, The Horrors. Jack White, SBTRKT, Radiohead…? We really could go on.
- The original samples on records such as Max Romeo’s ‘Chase The Devil’ & ‘Critical Breakdown’ by Ultramagnetic MC’s which both featured on The Prodigy's ‘Out of Space?
- Anything released on XL's imprint labels Young Turks and Hot Charity Records?
Or any other interesting music connections you can make to the label?
