Springwatch is back, from our new home in the Cairngorms

From the heathery floors of veteran Caledonian pinewoods, to the rolling whaleback summits of the Cairngorm mountains, spring has arrived in one of the richest areas for wildlife in the British Isles, and Springwatch is here to join in the celebrations. Our home is the Dell of Abernethy, encircled by the dark-green pines of Abernethy Forest with stunning views of the high tops still whitened with snow.

Nearby is the RSPB’s Loch Garten reserve, established to protect the ancient Abernethy Forest and to showcase the famous breeding ospreys which plunge for fish in the mirror-calm waters of local lochs. The River Nethy, gin-clear with meltwater, flows past our Springwatch base and is home to bobbing dippers and grey wagtails. Red squirrels and roe deer play hide and seek among the pine trunks.

This is a truly magical place with special wildlife at every turn and we promise to bring you the very best it has to offer. With winter over, and the milder weather on offer, the team will exploring the Cairngorm mountain ranges, ancient forests, raging rivers and deep, silent lochs to build on the stories uncovered during Winterwatch.
