Springwatch Eve anticipation and excitement

Chris Hitchings

BBC Springwatch Digital Team

So, here we are. Springwatch Eve.

This time tomorrow I’ll be on location, our glorious new home in Gloucestershire.

To say I’m excited is an understatement. To say I’m nervous would also be a huge, no, an enormous understatement.

This series is my first Springwatch, but what an exciting opportunity it is. Having grown up in Cumbria, surrounded by fields and river and rolling hills, Sherborne feels a little bit familiar; bar the fact it’s 200 miles down the M5….

With the series moving inland, the animals we’ll be focusing on will be ones I’m more au fait with too. Badgers, robins and blackbirds. Foxes, stoats and peregrines. Hopefully they’ll all have had the memo and will turn out for the cameras! Over the next few weeks we really do have some treats in store for you; our followers, our fans.

This weekend, we’re planning to show you our wonderful new location. It’s picturesque to say the least. On Facebook we’ll be doing plenty of Live broadcasts, bringing you the latest from around the Springwatch production village and what’s happening out in the nests from the web cameras. We’ll also have highlights of what’s been happening throughout the day, too.

Our Instagram page is looking great at the moment, thanks to you Watchers for getting involved and submitting your photos at the drop of a hat. We’ll be using it this year to post behind the scenes photos from the studio, our new location, and highlights of what’s happening around and about the National Trust’s Sherborne estate.

Social media wise, I think Instagram is where we’re going to have some of the most exciting content this series, so it’s really worth giving us a follow! And of course, on Twitter and Flickr we’ll be sharing your photos, our photos, and stories from around Springwatch’s new home, and our locations we’re filming at across the UK.

Tonight’s the night I pack my bags and load up the car (along with a bag of compost our Series Producer has brought in for me – honestly, don’t ask). It’s going to be a great series, I can promise you that.

What could possibly go wrong? Actually, don’t answer that.

See you on the other side…
