Cannot wait to hear the programme. Radio documentaries are very entertaining. There was an excellent one based on Jeff Buckley last year featuring Chrissie Hind as the narrator which I would highly recommend seeking out

Having only caught one of the band's local pub gigs and two Brand accompanied silent film shows, I'd say they're probably up to it, but of course we'll have to check it out when it airs next week.



Given that Mike Hammond teaches Film Studies at So'ton Uni, perhaps they should record an album in an old cinema, either well restored or atmospherically abandoned, they could cover songs with cinematic themes (lord help 'em if they take requests and I'm in the audience -- I'm not sure Lynch's Girl in the Radiator Song, In Heaven could stand up to a skiffle version). That is, if no minimum security prisons are available to grant #1 posted request above.

Congratulations on ticking off a major bucket list . It is a wonderful joy in life to finally be where youve always wanted to be.I just went for the first time to Liverpool.Top of my list was the Cavern.I absolutely LOVED IT. It would have a great atmosphere even if The Beatles hadnt rocked it 292 times.Evey brick has been autographed by fans,on the walls, on the ceiling ,everywhere.

I believe in fate, the Cavern was calling me ,for as I went down the steps the guy on the stage just started to play Dueling Banjos!!!. He rocked, the small crowd roared.Magic.

Mark, just try not to go all Barbershop Ragga on it.

Mark, don't take this personally, but this is a film blog, not music blog. I am sure you are great at what you do, but some of your subscribers and regular viewers might not care about folk music, so in the future, please keep your blog on the right topic.

Love The Dodge Brothers first album "Louisa and the Devil". Can't wait to hear further about the adventures in Memphis and the release of the long awaited second album.

Whilst I agree that this blog should stay 'on topic', I can't see the harm in a bit of self indulgence from time to time. What I will say however, is if you do intend to post a clip like this (which IMO will be of little interest to most of the blogs viewers/readers), maybe post 2 clips. The other being about films. :)

#9 You didn't visit The Cavern! You visited a cleaned up,tourist friendly replica of the Cavern that is on the wrong side of the street. Liverpool council demolished the original cavern in around 1974 to build.........a car park. Yep. Only in England.

When you discuss film it's interesting, and your views on certain movies, although often debatable, are always worth listening to. But increasingly you are setting up debates which you rarely follow through, and your choice of Film Club movies suggest a rather contemptuous attitude to your blog followers (I mean, Breathless and Slade in Flame, Bleughh!).



You are starting to sound like one of those actors who always wanted to be a rock star (Willis, Reeves, Thornton etc), or rock stars who thought they were really actors (Jagger, Bowie, Sting). Stick to what you are good at and reward your followers with a little bit more interaction regarding their input into your blog. Remember, your blog only exists because of the followers comments, treat them with contempt and they will go elsewhere.

Seeing as Mark is on holiday, i'm taking it upon myself to tell you about a film i saw just this afternoon. A Simple Life is a marvellous little Chinese film which probably won't get much attention but if it's showing near you go see it, rather than waiting for the DVD, you will be rewarded for your efforts.

Yes and no.It apparently occupies 75% of the original space and is made of 50 % of the original bricks,so it isnt genuine but isnt a total fake either.Its a lovely small,dark place to have a pint.I`m glad they built it,beats a plaque on a wall, and I really liked the atmosphere. But then i really liked` F for Fake`

I'm personally happy to hear about this, even if the good doctor is reflecting on a personal experience he is doing so through a reflection of a good couple of decades of popular culture critique. The whingers above may as well say "can we have less matey banter and incessant sniping on the programme" or "if Kermode hates a film enough to rant about it for five minutes perhaps he should keep his comments to himself and only review good films"... seriously... there's enough jobsworthy film review blogs out there with no personality and style, just go and track one of those down. Your whinging posts are the online equivalent of taking a phone call in a crowded screening of Terms of Endearment.

I don't see the problem if Mark wants to mention his side project, not that it needs to be film related, although, that side project happens to have a side project of providing live musical accompaniment to silent films. Does that leave you anything to complain about (apart from the weather, the Olympics and the cruelty of fate)?

I would just like to post about the latest Mark Walhberg movie, Ted. I saw it a couple of days ago and I thought that it was brilliant. It's rude, crude and nasty...in a hilarious way. It's got quite a few bad reviews and I just can't see why. It's great.

As the good doctor himself would say, "Blimey Charlie!" I think some people would do well to think twice before clicking the submit button in future.

Having just finished listening to "Mark goes to Memphis" i found the first half most interesting with the textured description of period and place evocative. The second half, whilst it didn't convert into a Dodge Brothers fan, having to record a song in one take repeatedly to get it right deserves huge respect.
