I have just had my first comment read out by Kermode and i LOVE IT.On the subject of flashback friday the holy grail among kermodites is the 'sex lives of the potato men' review legend has it walls started shaking during that rant.

Apparently I'm both angry (well, it's one of my favourite films, can you blame me?), and senile (somewhere in the back of my mind I now remember that I knew that there was a commentary track done, doh).



Your video blog makes me want to do a Howard Beale (if it weren't for the fact that Chayefsky fell out with Russell, more fool him, Altered States could not have been a better realization of his script). In any case, keep up the good fight.

I wonder if anyone could convince Christopher Nolan to put in a good word with Warner Bros for this urgently required DVD release? He has been a very valuable asset to Warner over the last few years. Nolan has often professed his love for the work of other great British maverick directors such as Nic Roeg, and Alan Parker.

If you go to the Warner Bros UK website, at the bottom there is a link to "Request product information" - it's buried right next to "Careers". The URL doesn't work but it does give an e-mail address. I've sent them a nice e-mail respectfully asking when they might see fit to release it. Maybe more of us could do the same? Just a thought.

I wonder if Warners are anxious about releasing the film on DVD not because of any controversy but simply the financial return wouldn't cover costs - let's face it, they're a business and let's also not forget they were bold enough to stump up the cash for this (and Performance) back then.



Pity they don't operate a system like Universal do in the U.S. where you can request indvidual pressings of some of their unreleased back catalogue for $10 - $20 more than their mass-produced releases - it may come in generic packaging but at least you get a decent (and legal) print. Once, and if, they sell enough that way, it may inspire them to do a full commercial release containing the commentary etc.

Any chance of getting the BBC to broadcast it? That is how a lot of us saw it for the first time, if they are adamant they wont release it for financial reasons. If they allowed it to be downloaded,they would make pure profit and gauge how much interest it currently has.

Warner Brothers its simple, release this film because its bloody brilliant.

How come the 2 Sept podcast cut off so abruptly?

Well Warners could offer it to users via services like they do with Lovefilm who do streaming for their films if it's a cost issue and trying to make money with a DVD release.

They do this with a lot of their films through Lovefilm with a Time Warner comapny called WarnerFilms.

Warner not releasing the film in any way of form to me though is crazy. They have plenty of distrubution options other than DVD and it would make them money and give them good press, look at Life of Brian being re-released in Torquay

It's clearly worth a punt by Time Warner!!!

Well, I know that Mr Kermode says not to buy from places like Amazon, but I have found a copy of the film available on DVD from a Spanish high street chain with English on its name under the title of Los Demonios. Now, I do not think it is the extended version of the film, but the original. Still, better have the original than no copy at all, and it will come with the original version as well as the dubbed Spanish version...

Along with your likely never-to-be attempt at EXORCIST III restoration, this is one of the projects you've interested me in Dr. K.

So it's clearly a good news/bad news blog entry. Good news that we are at least assured a director's commentary on the film, alas, the bad news appears to be that it'll be one that remains unheard for some time to come.



I appreciate that catalogue releases will, for the most part, play second banana to the latest release cycles but, COME ON on Warner Bros, lets SORT THIS OUT so we can all be friends again. Well, at least until we encourage Mark to start asking you questions about a possible new release of Ken's rather neglected 'Altered States'.

Why can't you show it on BBC 2 or BBC 4? Then via the magic of the red button people can have the director's commentary on should they choose too.

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed that. Mark cut-short in mid-sentence, no less! I emailed them to tell them about the error, don't know if they fixed it.

I downloaded it again the day before yesterday but no difference that I could tell. I've tried downloading it again today but this time there's an error message "... could not be found on the server". Maybe they've picked the issue up and are working on it?

I'm more concerned why their was no blog yesterday...........
