Yes, keyser-sozes-ghost! We could see Jim Broadbent in the role of the coach - Al's MASSIVE overacting and SHOUTING could be compensated by Jim's quiet authority and understatement. Could be a hit!

its the broadbent not entity...no show, they ain't nothin' here bro'. (I must cut down on my "the wire" consumption). Looking forward to Edinburgh gig tomorrow and resumption of normal double doctor service from next Friday. Hope the long vacation has energised you both for much incisive hilarity.

Jim Broadband is amazing, loved in a lot of things, especially Mike Leigh's Topsy Turvy. Oh and since he was in Ver Drake, I hope Dr K offers him a cup of tea.

Broadbent is a great actor, from 'human rights' campaigner Lord Longford to, my favourite performance of his, as bent copper Roy Slater in Only Fools and Horses. He's assmebled a brilliant career. I'm really happy he got the chance to break out internationally. Great actor.



Really interested in seeing Longford.

Jim Broadbent is indeed one the UK's finest actors. Longford was a tremendous work with three exceptional performances, Broadbent's turn as the eponymous Lord the best of the three.



However, for me, it's his supporting role as the barman in The Crying Game that first made me realise just what a fine actor he is. Especially once given the twist (are spoilers REALLY required for this nearly 20 year old movie?), the kind of bar in which he works gives a whole new take on the character.



It's a small-ish role in a brilliant film full of fine performances, but for whatever reason he truly shined through.

I recently watched him in a 3 part drama on BBC called Exile; where he played along side John Simm, who I think is an excellent british actor.

Broadbent plays a his father who has alzheimers.



Amazing performance.

I still think he's at his best in Moulin Rouge! where he is clearly having fantastic fun and its a really entertaining performance. Completely pulls off a wacky character and he mimes really well.

Just finished watching Longford, and was moved by Mr Broadbent's masterful, understated depiction of Lord Longford's slightly edgy and eccentric demeanor. The power of television used for good for once!

Television drama can be everybit as good as ,if not superior to cinema.Partly because this medium can have time for plot and character developement. There have been three fabulous examples of this recently.The danish TV series, The Killing. the manx production The Shadow Line , and Broadbent in the Exile. All of these have the same feactures, wonderful actors, fantastic plots, and particularly with Shadowline excellent cinematography.Broadbent as ever was wonderfull playing a man suffering from Alzheimers. The quality of plot and acting in these can not be underestimated

Ah Old Jim Broadbent, he's a national treasure and a complete delight to watch on screen in everything he does. Don't forget his stellar work as a voice over artist, especially on Percy the Park Keeper!

Good blog post, would like to echo your love for Jim Broadbent, although for me I have always enjoyed him most when he goes slightly over the top - he's great in Topsy-Turvy and his performance as Zeigler in Moulin Rouge! is note-perfect. "JEALOUSY HAS DRIVEN HIM MAD!" XD

Don't forget Broadbent's Dean Charles Stanforth in Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull - a more-than-adequate successor to Denholm Elliott's Marcus Brody.

I think Broadbent's best work is those films where he's a supporting role. A film that springs to mind is Richard III where he plays the Duke of Buckingham, one of Richards right hand men and steals the lime light from Ian McKellen whenever he is on screen.

I thought Longford was terrific but there has still been no DVD release in the U.K. Why not?!

I love Jim Broadbent he is after all in one of me favourite films of all time Jerzy Skolimowskis 'The Shout'.

He will though forever in my mind be Roy 'the slag' Salter.

Some people think that rural policing is eeeeeeasy...

Jim Broadbent is indeed a National Treasure. You can be assured whenever you see him on screen, he always lifts the work, just with his acting presence.

He is always a pleasure to see on screen, no matter how large or small the role.

I wonder if they will show his performance as a heavy in Superman IV: Quest For Peace!
