Hi Mark, (Forgive me,as this will be long, but I need to vent spleen!)I have been getting increasingly fed up with the choice of films at my local cinemas recently. I have nearby a Cineworld cinema and an Odeon cinema. Over the last few weeks there have been a few films that I have wanted to see but they were not shown at either of my locals. Manchester's Cornerhouse does offer some salvation, but it is a fair journey from where I live so it's not often that I get to go there.



After hearing so much from yourself about "Of Time and the city" I was delighted to see a special showing advertised at a Theatre nearby. NOT a cinema you understand, an actual theatre. It was scheduled to take place today and I was very much looking forward to it. Imagine then, my disappointment to read this statement on the theatre's website last night : -

We regret that we have had to postpone the showing of 'Of Time and A City'. Due to the high demand for this film as a result of it's recent major awards, the distributors have decided to only allow the venues who have long runs of the film to show it at this time. We will be showing it at a later date to be advised. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this decision which is out of our control. If you have already purchased a ticket for this film, please contact the box office for a refund or to transfer your tickets to another of our films.



What the hell are the distributors playing at? Surely any cinema that can show films for longer than 1 night will not show films such as this? What an absolutely ridiculous decision!

The Reader couldn't hold my attention at all and is terribly overated. I had just watched revolutionary Road, then watched The Reader. The essential problem with the read was the very foundations of the plot, it would have made a much better short/er film.

Revolutionary Road I controversially thought was overrated as well, though i can see why it is an Oscar nominee on many levels for many aspects. Winslet was the best thing about the film, and the best scenes for me were the 'mad' son of the neighbor (or was it landlady/ or both???) who visited and was ironically the most sane of all of them as they were all entrapped by tension, unspoken secrets and desires and societies demand on worklife, wealth, property, obligations, gender-roles etc I also found the ending quite cleverly done.

It's interesting as my girlfriend thought it was a misogynist film, and yet I thought it was sexist towards women.
