You need to expect less of these movies

We don't have to see these films, but he does - and I think there does come a point where you have to say you're going to stop slamming your hand in car doors because BMW or Nissan Micra, it hurts, and I can't in all conscience expect Dr Kermode to keep doing it just because there'll be a good rant for our enjoyment afterwards.
I knew within about two seconds of seeing the poster that there is absolutely no hope I will ever see Bride Wars. I get to make that choice, but Dr Kermode doesn't.

My point is that nobody has to see this type of movie (or any type of movie) at all! I saw the Bride Wars poster - not even a clip or a trailer - and immediately decided not to see the flim. It's true you can't judge a movie without seeing it but you can calculate the odds on whether you'll enjoy it, and all the information you need is on that artwork. If Bride Wars had an 18 certificate and was directed by John Woo or Brian De Palma, I'd go. But it hasn't, it wasn't, and it might as well have been taglined "You're a man in your forties. Go away, this film is not for you."
Dr Kermode endures this kind of movie because he has to. But when things are this bad, I'm guessing he's wondering whether he should have to.
