It's been a week of newbies on the MPFree front this week, and caping things off is a nice slice of 80s style pop. The artist in question is New York based Majestyy which is the solo project of Apes & Androids frontman Brian Jacobs.

Your MPFree is a one minute shot in the arm from Parquet Courts. The New York-via-Texas four piece have kept it simple and made an album which is full of straight-forward, no messing garage rock.

The album Light Up Gold was released earlier this year, and now they're giving the title track away for free.

Your MPFree today comes from Portland outfit Chromatics. This track comes from the forthcoming After Dark II triple LP compilation released by the label Italians Do It Better.

This is a new track for Chromatics, and is the first new material since their album Kill For Love which was released in May. And if you recognise the sound, but not the name, it might be because they provided music for the soundtrack to Drive.

Your first MPFree of the week comes from Mac DeMarco who's a 22-year-old from Montreal.

Last year he released his debut record Rock n Roll Night Club, but in October he returned with his full-length debut Mac DeMarco 2. It's so far received favourable reviews with NME awarding the album 8 out of 10 and describing him as 'Ferris Bueller with a guitar'.

Your final MPFree of the week is a lovely slice of shoegaze from a band called Nothing, which, I'm sure you'll agree, is a perfect name for a shoegaze band.

They are a four-piece from Philadelphia and this track comes from the Downward Years To Come EP which is coming soon.

Last year they released the Sons & Lovers EP through Big Love Records if you'd like to delve into their back catalogue.

Your second MPFree of the week comes from PVT. Australian band PVT come from good stock as he shares a label with Matthew Dear.

They've just finished a European tour supporting Bloc Party and play a one-off headline show at London's Birthdays on the 28th November.

This new track comes from their forthcoming album Homosapien which is the follow up to the 2010 album Church With No Name.

This first MPFree of the week comes from Thao & The Get Down Stay Down.

They have a new album on the way called We The Common set for release on 5th February next year. This will be the fifth album from the San Francisco based band.

This week our guest is Nathan Barry from Shepperton, and I think this is a Memory Tape first.... Nathan writes:

"Hey Lauren, here's my Memory Tape. It was a proper old skool cassette I made called 'A Tribute To Harriet'.

"Harriet was my 1970 Beetle - named after Harriet Wheeler from The Sundays. I rebuilt her when I was 17 and drove her all through my college days, including 4 or 5 trips to Glastonbury. I had to sell her because she couldn't handle the mileage I was driving to and from work when I was about 25.

"I made the mix tape for a special day out driving around Richmond Park on the last weekend before I passed her on to her new owner. I cried when he drove her away, and then again when I found out later that he crashed her into a tree after about month!

The MPFree today comes from a San Franciscan 5-piece. Evil Eyes released this track as a single back in September, but have now decided to give it away for free.

The debut album is expected early next year.

Your MPFree is a track Lauren played yesterday and features Pete Wareham - the saxophonist who plays with Kindness aka Adam Bainbridge (which is how we found out about the band).

They're a bit of a 6-piece jazz super group, as Pete also plays with Acoustic Ladyland and Polar Bear. This is the band's debut single out now.

Your MPFree today comes from yesterday's session guest Benjamin Francis Leftwich. He's giving away a three track covers EP via his website.

They are South-East London duo Paul Trivett and Thomas Whitelaw and this track is taken from the Red 1 debut EP which is out now on R-Lo Records.

Before they met Paul had been writing and producing drum and bass under the moniker Paul T, contributing material to LTJ Bukem's label and Tom had been recording original music for Theatre productions in London.

"This compilation was sent to me by an ex-boyfriend before he was my boyfriend. He was an impressionable 18 year old local musician and I a 20 year old University student looking to find my place in Hull.

"We both did them at the time and I'm sure it was a case of trying to impress by being as eclectic as possible to show our wide scoping musical taste. I can't say everything on there totally hit the spot but I still occasionally play it now and it reminds me of those excellent times. It obviously did its job as we went out for seven years, I didn't move back home after University and I'm still here now.

"I'm still in contact with Jonee, my ex (guitarist in the awesome Fonda 500), although our lives have taken us down different paths. This compilation reminds me of why I'm the person I am today and this surely can't be a bad thing. It does break my one fundamental compilation rule though - more than one track by the same artist. I'll let him off..."
