MEMORY TAPES: 20TH APRIL 2012

This week's Memory Tape is a tale of friendship, as told by Siobhan Carroll....

"I'm submitting a memory tape that my rather amazing friend Roman gave me when we were at university. We were next door neighbours and it was amazing. We are very close friends still even though we barely ever see each other, and by complete fluke he ended up one of the first people to find out I was engaged to the man I am marrying in June. We ended up discussing, of course, the wedding playlist. This has since led to me singing "Let's Get Married" to Roman in a crowded restaurant. As you do.

"I have always made mix tapes and CDs and ummed and ahhed over the track listing, cut up my beloved copies of Select and NME to make art work, photocopied pages out of comics and all sorts.

"I also tended to put the story behind every track on the track listing (I'd fallen out of this habit by the time I made them for my fiancé but the song choices tended to speak for themselves).

"Roman was not so good, he failed to provide anything more than a tape in a box, and though the songs were great I tended to need to have him there while I was listening so I could ask what every song was. Not so convenient.
