PLANET OF THE APPS: 15TH NOVEMBER 2011
King Of The Apps Stuart Dredge returns as your techie guide. Here's what he's dug out for you this week:
8tracks (Android)
Online music playlists service 8tracks has had an iPhone app for a while, but now it's on Android. The idea: browse playlists created and uploaded by other people tagged by topic and mood - sleep, study, chill, sex and more. There are more than 300,000 playlists to choose from.
Shuffler.fm (iPad)
This is the latest music discovery app designed to help you see what new tunes music blogs have been recommending. It's designed to be part music magazine on the iPad, and part streaming radio station: it plays you the songs while showing you the blog posts written about them.
Closet Swap (iPhone)
This app is part of a wider Channel 4 project on sustainable fashion - encouraging people to borrow clothes from friends, or buy them from secondhand shops. The Closet shop site is about uploading photos of your clothes for friends to borrow (it's aimed more at teenage girls), while the app is more about taking a quick photo of something in a shop to find out if friends have anything similar. It also acts as a location-based guide to vintage and secondhand clothing shops.
