BBC Radio 1: Annabel Allum - Beat The Birds

You must enable javascript to play content

Guildford rocker Annabel Allum is now on Radio 1's playlist as our featured Introducing artist! Make sure you tune in to Clara, Dev & Alice, Adele, Greg, Matt and Scott to hear 'Beat The Birds' being played all week!

Supported by: The legend that is Melita Dennett from BBC Music Introducing in The South

Style: Grunge rock

Essential: Annabel is a singer and songwriter from Guildford who first uploaded to Introducing in The South in 2014. She has been described as "Courtney Barnett on a Kill Bill style vengeance mission" and is influenced by Lykke Li, King Krule and Polica. We love her honest lyricism and alt rock tone - so does Rat Boy, who has done a remix of this 'Beat The Birds'! Don't forget, Annabel is playing in Swansea for Radio 1's Biggest Weekend on the Introducing stage this Saturday.

BBC 1Xtra: Slowthai - Ladies

You must enable javascript to play content

Slowthai is now on 1Xtra's smoking hot playlist! His track 'Ladies' will be played for the next seven days across our daytime schedule, plus Twin B will be chatting to him on his Monday night show.

Supported by: The main man, Lal Muttock at BBC Music Introducing in Northampton

Style: Raw and conscious UK rap.

Essential: Slowthai is a Northampton born and bred rapper whose music is unmistakably British, treading a line between grime, rap, dubstep and garage. He says that his Slowthai moniker comes from a childhood nickname, born out of friends commenting on his slow speech and that his music speaks out for a generation of kids swinging between anger and apathy at the unsettled times they’ve found themselves born into. The track may be a warping rap bop but it's also a tribute to Slowthai's mother, her mother and all the other women in his life. Make sure you check out the video too, which shows the rapper reversing gender-role stereotypes.
