A BBC Introducing in the West special at Maida Vale

Sam Bonham

BBC Introducing presenter

BBC Introducing in the West took four West Country artists to the renowned Maida Vale Studios in London. Broadcast last month, Henry Green (from Wiltshire), Solemn Sun (Gloucestershire), Elder Island (Bristol) and Honne (Somerset) travelled to the capital to perform live in session.

The sessions ran like clockwork with each band offering something completely different. Solemn Sun premiered their new haunting rockier edge, while Elder Island showcased their musicality with a nudge of an urban twist. Henry Green delivered his lyrics from the heart as the youngest of the pack and Honne brought their whole gang along and provided a bunch of new and exciting sounds.

As we were taking a slice of our West Country pie to London, it felt only natural to pose the question of whether being in London helps artists develop their careers as musicians. London is vital to a lot of new musicians and the decision of whether to move to London or not is an issue a lot of new musicians have to grapple with.

That aside, we had an amazing time just travelling to London for the day. It’s a real challenge to explain why Maida Vale is so special, maybe you should just have a look for yourself:
