Hello hello, it's good to be back.
A big thanks to Vic Galloway for keeping the show together for the past couple of weeks:) I had a great time in New Zealand, it's a stunning country and the cities are brilliant. I was there taking part in seminars on music and giving my perspective on what's going on at the moment. Never spoken so much in my life, and even in newsagent back home I'm still explaining why I want to buy the milk and cereal as if I'm at a seminar.
Heard lots of ace music in NZ. The scene there is very healthy, with bands like Mint Chicks, Die!Die!Die!, Conan and the Mockasins leading the way for the indie heads, North Shore Pony Club and Shapeshifter on the dance scene, Black Seeds for any Fat Freddy's Drop fans.
I'm playing some NZ tunes on the show tonight, and its a session from the stunning True Adventures too. They're from Norwich, as are our DIY label of the week - Howlback Hum.
Hope you can tune in for a dose of FLASH new music....

Hey, just heard that Dandelion Radio are carrying on an old John Peel tradition and doing a Festive 50 this year..
You can vote for your top 3 tracks here:
https://www.dandelionradio.com/pages/festive50_poll_form.html
I'm going for Tunng, Nina Nastasia and Tall Pony..I think!
What about you?
Yep, it's been an absolute joy sitting in for Huw again this week and hopefully you've enjoyed some of the underground and unsigned gems I've played you. Seems like Candy Thief https://www.candythief.com went down well, as did Oi Polloi https://www.myspace.com/oipolloialba for the punks; Popup https://www.popuptheband.com and Clean George IV https://www.myspace.com/cleangeorgeiv for the Indie kids; and Kling Klanghttps://www.klingklang.co.uk for the noisy experimentalists out there!!! It's always good to hear your opinions, whether positive or negative, about a track or 2 and we love texts and emails live on the show too. It can get a wee bit lonely between midnight and 2am so the more 'love' the better!
Emily, our tipster from Glasgow, was on fine form and let us know about all sorts of things up here... so if you're ever in this neck of the woods, why not pop into 'Art of Parties' or 'Guns 'n' Horses' club nights or check some Haunted House, Dirty Hospital and Take a worm for a walk week when they play live. Of course you can listen to the whole show again for a whole week, if you so desire, and catch up on this first hand.
For all of you twisted souls out there (myself included) who love the Tall Pony track 'I'm your boyfriend now', they have a limited edition CD (3 tracks including "I'm Your Boyfriend Now") available now. It's £4.35 including postage and packing through PayPal using their email address [email protected] You know you want it in your life!!
Well, Huw is back again in action next week, so I'll bid y'all farewell and see you anon. Remember you can catch my weekly BBC Radio 1 show on Thursdays at https://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/vicgalloway ; my weekly BBC Radio Scotland show on Mondays at https://www.bbc.co.uk/vicgalloway ; and always check my myspace at https://www.myspace.com/vicgallowayr1 or email at the beeb on [email protected]

Hey Blog-lovers!
How are you all? If you don't know me, I present my show every Thursday evening on Radio 1 in Scotland when we split the nations. If you live in Scotland, then hopefully you've heard my sweet, dulcet tones - if not, then check out the show online and listen again for a week after it goes out.
This week and next (15th & 22nd November) I'm also sitting in for the lovely Huw Stephens on Wednesday nights/Thursday mornings playing the most outstanding, underground, underexposed and mostly unsigned music going. It's an absolute joy to be going across the UK and playing all these weird and wonderful tunes for you! I hope you'll join me at midnight on Wednesday or listen again. You can obviously check the tracklistings on Huw's pages https://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/huwstephens and please text or email the show to make some suggestions as to what new bands I should be discovering. I'm always on the look-out for something new and totally original. It's out there, I know it is...
If you'd like to contact me, the email is [email protected] and you can check my own BBC pages here https://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/vicgalloway and here https://www.bbc.co.uk/vicgalloway or on myspace here https://www.myspace.com/vicgallowayr1

hello
hope youre well. just been for a thai in the pub round the corner. they do a mean thai, which is surprising considering its a pub. Today I came up on the train to London and headed straight to the Maida Vale area of London and to the BBC studios. We Are Scientists were int here with Colin Murray, Kasabian were just leaving after being on Jo Whiley's show, and we were in MV 4 for a live set from three ace bands for tonights show.
They all played In the City in Manchester recently, and all played some great songs which are broadcast tonight (and up to listen again for the next seven days of course). They were Cate le Bon, Gideon Conn and Stuart James.
They're all ace, make music to hold onto, and hopefuly will reach a wider audience in the near future.
I've been loving the Brakes album of late, the Magic Numbers album is just lovely, got a new Tall Pony demo through which is great (they'll be on the show before the year is out hopefuly) and loads more great demos.

Got to see two American geniuses in Belgium over the weekend - Cat Power in
Brussels and Sufjan Stevens in Ghent. Not together you understand, thatd be too
much to take in at one gig. Chan Marshall who is Cat Power was on top form, her
voice just immaculate. She has such a presence, on record and onstage. And her
band were incredible. Sufjan was onstage wearing wings. Big, wavy, bird wings.
His songs are ridiculously explosive, again with a brilliant band behind him and
simply gorgeous songs.
Special my friends, special:)
Hello,
So for all you lot who are gagging to find out more about Tall Pony 'I'm Your Boyfriend Now' here's the link:
https://www.myspace.com/123806710
Sadly its not downloadable..in fact it isn't even up there...but you could mail them and nag them
We REALLY want to hear someone do a version called 'I'm Your Girlfriend Now' as well
Come on laydeez!!!!!!!!!!
hello hello
well, its been a rolelrcoaster of new music since me last blog. I've been larging it at In the City in Manchester this week, an annual event which focuses on seminars in the day and new unsigned music at night. Perfect for the show then!
Next week I'll have three bands from In the City in session, which they'll be recording in Maida Vale next week. Check the site for tickets if you want to come down and see Stuart James, Gideon Conn and Cate le Bon! Sgonna be ace!
I love Manchester - what a brilliant city - full of character, hidden corners and ace people. Looking forward to next year already. So do check the Manchester special on next weeks show.
Tonight though, the show, as well as having a few ITC treats, will be looking back at the Electric Proms, the BBC festival that happened last week onstage and online. And on radio too of course. Oh, and on telly.
I've got some live highlights from the Next Stage gig from the Camden Barfly on Sunday, which I was hosting. Can't play every band unfortunately - guaranteed there'll be music you like from there though!
see you at midnight!
