Brilliant Song for the UK - Well done BBC and big chances for Engelbert - LOVE IT!!!

It a very peaceful song and seems to be better than what the UK entered over the last few year but for some reason it still does not seem like a Eurovision song.However the performance is fantastic and I believe with the perfect delivery of the song on the night the UK stands a fantastic chance of winning.

It is clearly a ballad in which case I am not entirely convinced. I seem to recall that "That Sounds Good to Me" (2010) was a pop ballad (and came last) so my inital thoughts are "If the United Kingdom doesn't want to take part, then just say so!"

Britain just doesn't 'get' Eurovision. The song is pleasant enough but really, is this the best we can do in 2012. Neither the song NOR the artist are suitable for Eurovision. How embarrassing!

I like it, it's good. Please, please, please don't surround him with gimmicky dancing girls in scanty outfits. What about a single ballet dancer in the background with maybe a long ribbon twirly thing (guess they have a proper name that I don't know lol).

I'm pleasantly surprised and really liking the song. I would think this is definitely a Top 10 placement in the Final. Loads better than the plastic pop sent in the past few years. And I've got to hand it to Engelbert - he's still got the voice. Let's hope it'll sound just as good on the night. Well done, BBC!

In all honesty, this song would be better suited for John Barrowman - not only does he have a much more powerful voice, his appearance in Doctor Who and Torchwood would be a huge advantage.



However, I will not condemn Englebert Humperdink just yet. From what I've heard of the other entries so far, most of them seem to be dance club type songs (except for the Russian entry) so Europe might see this as a breath of fresh air. A different song to most others will make it more memorable so fingers crossed.



Good luck for the Eurovision, Mr Dorsey! The UK (most of them anyway) is behind you 100%.

Better than our recent efforts, but not a potential winner. We have so much musical talent in this country, I just don't understand why we never seem to enter the right kind of song for eurovision.

I like the song, but its not a Eurovision song. No disrespect to Mr Humperdink, but at least if the country tele-votes for rubbish, its a consensus and we can all get behind it no matter how bad it is. I can't 'Believe' in this song, wont be very easy for me to wave my union jack on the big night.

Come on BBC get your act together, this song is seriously out of date with the current standards of winning ESC entries. Do you honestly think it will beat the likes of Italy Iceland or Spain or Norway this year?!! What we need is a Britains Got Talent style show way before eurovision starts to get the song and act right. All the winning countries nowadays do this type of thing, so why not us?!

My initial reaction to Engelbert was 'Oh No!' Having heard the song, it is now 'Oh Yes!' He still has the voice, can put it over, and the song is deceptively simple. Go for it Engelbert!

Can I please add that this now needs to be played around Europe from today, constantly and Englebert needs to be there doing loads of publicity. This is an area where we go wrong every year. Many other countries have chosen their song and been promoting it for months before we even decide on a song. Get promoting in Europe - NOW!

That's a really nice song and a definite standout in this year's competition. Royaume Uni for a top 5 finish this year.

Has a slightly Spanish feel to it? Dont know if it will catch the judges eye so to speak as it is a little too slow, however if played enough it definately does grow on you. Fantastic voice though!

Oh dear how much did the BBC spend on this vid 10p.The Hump is a ledgend , but this song and vid are both uninspireing , plaese BBC give the eurovision up and give it to a channel who will actualy invest sometime and money into promoting our entrys.Most of the other Euorpian countrys have been promoting there songs for weeks , some are already internet hits , and I have heard some of them played on Portuguese , and Spanish radio..I was always told "if a jobs worth doing its worth doing well".Shame we have waisted the oppertunity for the hump to show off his voice...VERY DISSAPOINTED , from and avid euro fan ;-((

Amazing. Instantly memorable, fantastic original tune, meaningful words, tingle-factor, great performance. Waltz-time always gives a romantic lilt. Best of all for Eurovision - it sticks in the mind after only one hearing.

The Russians are comming

A lovely ditty and I like the guitar background..... I vision it with two 'strictly' professionals waltzing along to it from half way in. Alot of ballads this year but should make top 10... possibly higher if presented right- remember how the sand artist last year lifted an ordinary song for Ukraine into number 4 spot!!!

"Britain doesn't get eurovision". There is nothing to get !. It will be one by some dirge from eastern Europe and then never be heard again in countries that actually produce good music

totally agree with Roz - promote the song - release it now and get airplay so it is heard around Europe. Why leave it until the week before the contest?

The BBC must now support its choice of artist and get Englebert on EVERY entertainment and radio show they produce. Guest spot on The Voice etc and don't abandon him to late night Lottery shows!!!

This is where the BBC falls down - selecting artists and leave them without the due promotion that should be given for representing the UK!

It's not bad, and we finally have a song free of ego but it hasn't got a hope in hell of winning or being in the top 5, songs like this seldom win eurovision. But as I always say, the judge is our own charts. If it's a no.1 hit here than it diserves to do well in eurovision. If it's not no.1 in our charts what can we expect?

Hello Out There! Just listened in for the Song Engelbert will be singing at the Eurovision -2012 in Baku in May, as he represents his beloved country, the UK! I think this song ~ " Love Will Set You Free" ~ Is the perfect song to sing to the World! As to Engelbert, I have followed this Entertainer's career since 1967 ~ when the first notes of "Release Me" played through the radio, and I have never been disappointed with a song he has chosen to sing or record. I think this is a brilliant choice to represent the UK at Baku! Thank You, Enge, It sounds like a Winner!

This is a great song, his delivery is superb but not immediately memorable.



Remember 1 fact that the winning song is normally 1 of the last 5 to be sung in the running order on the night.

Lets see where we are placed on the night.

this song is all wrong it won't win us the Eurovision because its aimed at the audience of older british people you need to aim at europe not Britain, it is a embarrassment, we will get zero points or close again!

Eurovision reveals is a complete variety of songs reflecting music from across Europe and it is only to be expected that some neighbours vote for each other as they hear the songs before the contest. Anyhow may the best song win, wherever it is from - in fact some of the best songs this year are ballads from the Balkan region

I'm just hoping that all members of the Russian song this year actually survives until the night of this years Eurovision Song Contest in Baku in May (they do look rather frail)

Simple tune - charming - different from usual boom boom pap - was not sure when they announced Englebert as UK entry - think its a hit and should do well. Very well executed. Well done Englebert and BBC

OK, so I've not heard any of the other entries yet, so I can't compare it with them, but to me, this sounds like the sort of song that Spain might enter if they went for a ballad (and they of course have a proudly successful history in Eurovision don't they?)



I can't see it winning myself, but until I've listened through some more entries, I wouldn't like to say. Will people vote for it (or avoid it) because of its being the UK entry, or because of the traditional voting blocks within EV? Ireland and Malta will probably like this one, which should give us more points than the last couple of years. If it was backed by a choir from the key change onwards, then it might well appeal to some of the Eastern block countries too.



I do wish though that we would stop worrying about whether something is 'Eurovision' enough for the competition. I think we've constantly tried to pander to the tastes of the rest of Europe, without understanding them ourselves. We should avoid any of the obvious Euro cliches and just enter the best song we can find (however it may be chosen). The ALW song we sent to Moscow sounded immediately as if it had come from one of his productions, rather than from some Eurovision blueprint. You may by default love or hate his output, but it was our best showing in the competition in years.

The song is lovely, and Englebert sang it beautifully. I think it should do really well, but lets not forget for the last 10-15 years the voting seems to have been politically biased, even though we have had some good songs and singers which didn't deserve the points they received. Good Luck to everyone involved, I would love it to win.

Wow, he's still got 'it' hasn't he. The style should appeal to our European cousins - and to ladies of a certain age! Great song.

Dreary, bland, instantly forgettable. The wrong sort of rubbish for Eurovision, unfortunately. It's nice to see Englebert can still belt it but he has clearly been chosen because no up-and-coming band or singer would be dumb enough to immolate their career on the altar of Eurovision. Why do the BBC keep subsidising and televising this kitsch festival of euro-holiday-camp-cabaret crooners? If the 'contest' wasn't a joke already, the blatant voting blocs of the Baltics and Eastern Europe make it one.



Let's stop deluding ourselves. This song is going to get placed, if the UK is lucky, third from bottom. Eurovision is a ridiculous circus as dated and embarrassing as the Miss World contest, and the BBC should have stopped broadcasting it sometime in the last century.

It's nothing to do with who sings the song. Englebert is a good singer. Its all down to the song itself. And most of the songs the UK have put out in the past ten years have been cobblers! Rubbish! With no meaningful words to even remember them by. The lyrics to this song are utter drivel! As a professional songwriter; that's someone who can write a descent song! I can say this will struggle to get into the top twenty of the votes: If we are lucky!

Uninspired and just what the BBC want, it is blatently obvious they never want to host the Eurovision Song Contest and have to invest more than they already do. They took away the public's right to select the entry and appear to have begun a process of putting the whole enterprise on the bottom shelf. Wouldn't be surprised if the BBC drop the show completely in the near future. I for one would welcome that decision so that another station gets the chance to promote Eurovision rather than have the BBC insult its licence payers with this drivel.

I think he had a few tuning problems as the song started but it improved towards the end. Not a bad song, more suited to a sad musical such as Blood Brothers, I feel. Sounds a little like Neil Diamond, but nowhere near as good. The Eastern Bloc will vote for each other anyway and I strong believe that the UK should pull out for a year, along with all the funding we give. It's no longer a song contest.

A very nice, simple song, that will appeal to many - should finish high on the leaderboard in May - just hope it gets a good draw in the running order.

i) please Arlene don't spoil this with some tacky back-drops and dancers as you did with Josh two years ago. Treat it with the sensitivity the song deserves and stick with the straight delivery of the Hump and guitarist. Indeed Rock and Roll Kids won this way in 1994.



ii) if the Hump really can still sing like that live and keep the high notes in the song at the end, the professional juries are going to like it. Too straight a song though for all the youngsters around Europe to vote for so it would be too much to expect it to win. They're more likely to appreciate the Russian grannies just having a laugh.



iii) nice voice and suit, but he needs a haircut Arlene.

I have no idea if it will win but it's a delightful little song, very well sung by EH. Most enjoyable.

It,s a very good song sung by an old master of ballads, but since when has that mattered with the way the voting is done.

Song is (surprisingly) fab.

But the music production is disappointly poor.

I really enjoyed this song, and the way in which Engelbert delivers it, it's a meaningful song and it deserves to do well, perhaps not the obvious or typical song type for eurovision, but ballads have done well in the past especially for Ireland etc,I would love to see this do well, and it's great to hear Engelbert still in fine voice after all the years, good on him I say, with lot's of respect too.

Its a lovely song and i think the best entry so far in a long while. This song needs airplay now to get traction before the contest starts. I really do hope someone is reading this and would promote this song especially via social media . To win , we need everyone to like the song and just not on the night

Very nice. Have been a great fan of Humperdinks since "Please Release" made the charts. It's a usual Humperdink ballad which I like - Not sure if it will win over the other contestants though.

Well, I'm not a great fan of Eurovision or Engelbert, but if he can put in that performance on the night, hitting the notes, then I think he has a great chance of at least finishing in the highest place for the Uk for many a year. Good luck to him is what I say. The song is well crafted and has a good build up and crescendo

oh dear oh dear nil points this year i think lovely man terrible song.

At last the UK has realised, the Eurovision Song contest is about entertainment and this song has the comedy factor that Ireland introduced two years ago with Dustin the Turkey and continued last year and this with Jedward! An old wrinklie like Englebert singing about love is just what we need. The only thing missing is a twenty something whose hand he should be holding and to gaze lovingly into his eyes.

A beautiful song sung by a legend with a good strong voice. I will eat my hat if we don't do well. For those making nasty comments and who are knocking him should remember we all age! Will you still be handsome in your 70s?

Steven you took the words out my mouth. My Dad always used to say the sign of a good song is it´s modulation. It´s a good song and well sung .. and he looks elegant. Don´t whatever you do change his look! Let´s hope a good song as opposed to a spectacle wins for a change.

I love the song, like the rendition, unfortunately I expect yet another ba-da-bomm type song to win. There's no quality in Eurovision, I suspect that only those with a mental age of less than 15 are allowed to vote...

Oh dear, think we better be prepared for 'nil point' this year again!! I've been a Eurovision fan since a young age and am embarrassed and disappointed about this year's entry. At least I'm glad I will have the chance to vote for another country to win!

I agree with one of the other posts, don't use scantily clad girls, use a ballerina, much more classy for the song.

Having been a singer/sax player/guitarist for 30 years I believe this is the best concerted effort to win the Euro for many years. It is a meaningful song with a good crescendo to finish, which is what listeners like to hear. But the most important factor is a brilliant singer to deliver the goods. And EH excels with his vocal range added with the knowledge and experience as an exceptional entertainer to capture the emotion of the song and deliver it at its best. Whether it will be a winner or not I am not sure, but I believe the UK will do far far better than it has done in the past.

Mainly because EH is internationally known and loved, whereas previous acts were not. So go for it EH.

Love it! And love Engelbert singing it - he's still got a voice as anyone can here (apart from those miseries who just love to complain and find fault). Goodness, I loved him singing when he was Gerry Dorsey!

Will it win? I very much doubt it. Unfortunately Eurovision has very little to do with being a 'song competition' anymore. It's a 'political vehicle' and a 'you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours'. BUT - after listening to this, he won't let himself or the U.K. down!

This song is so monotonous. It is written in a sad minor key, has no decent melody.

The performances of the guitarist and Engelbert are good, but the music does nothing for them. Souds like an Elizabethan minstrel song, reminiscent of 'Greensleeves'. It has NO chance, the music needs to be bright and happy, not sad and miserable.

I really wanted to like this song, but after about a minute I was bored...much too samey, not enough variation. Euro song winners are catchy and stick in the memory...this one might stick in the memory, but for the wrong reason. Sorry!!!

A lovely song, well sung. Surprisingly like his much younger self. Don't forget that he has a huge following in Europe and they like him for songs like this so it must be worth a punt.

I'm not sure to be honest. Definitely Engelbert can still sing and this is a much better song than we have entered with for a long time, but somehow, although it is a pleasant ballad, it has a 'dated' sound and no immediate 'wow' factor. However, I wish Engelbert well with it. It isn't disastrous by any means.

I found the song moving and rather haunting in a very nice way, it is different and you never know in Eurovision what will win and what won't, I wish Englebert well and hope he does good for the U.K. Some singers don't sing as well as they get older but Englebert sings very well indeed. I really hope this year we do better but Eurovision is one of those contests where you get a lot of countries voting for their neighbouring countries and it spoils the contest. I like Engleberts voice and think he does the song proud. Good luck to him and I really hope everyone gets behind him for he is a legend in the music industry and can sing better than a lot of the younger talent out there today.

Britain is really scraping the barrel this time.

It's an okay song. It doesn't instantly stick with you but it's pleasant enough. Certainly the best that the UK have managed for a few years. Excellent delivery by Englebert. He can still sing that's for sure.

I think the uk don't want ot win again i think they need more up beat songs like Bucks Fizz or Katrina and the waves sang and they are spoiling the whole thing by using singers that have had and have got a career in the pop business

I absolutely love this song - it made me cry and I don't care if it doesn't win the eurovision song contest. People who write these beautiful songs are so talented. The lyrics to this song, in my opinion, really touch the heart.
