News of the crash has hit Walford hard, and The Square is alive with gossip! Following his arrest for tampering with Carl's car, Max is out on bail, and returns to his family determined to prove his innocence.

In an effort to show he has nothing to hide, Max takes the Branning clan over to The Vic, but his entrance turns the pub silent. To add to the tension, Carl soon swaggers in, and the situation is volatile. His family plead with him to leave, but what will Max do? Will he end up making things worse?

Despite her dad's troubles, we actually see a smile on Lauren's face this week, a rare sighting in recent times! And what may be the cause we wonder...

Well, we could have guessed it would be hunky Jake, her 'friend' from counselling! During a group session, Lauren gets the giggles and Jake is non too impressed. Waiting to apologise afterwards, she suggests they go to a local cafe. It's clear that there is a spark between them and Jake subtly hints that they should meet again.

Elsewhere, Roxy finally comes clean to Alfie about Ronnie's impending release and it's safe to say, he is far from happy. I mean look at that for a sad face...

As Alfie stews, Kat comes round to drop off Tommy, and Alfie confronts her about her knowledge of Ronnie's return. Kat makes it clear that she's not happy about it, and Alfie is left unsure about whether he can cope with having Ronnie back in his life!

All this happens and more in a spectacular week of EastEnders action from Monday 2nd September.
