CBeebies Bedtime Hour: New Episodes of Abney and Teal and 64 Zoo Lane

The whole point of the bedtime hour is that it's the same every day. Weekday or weekend. Now this concept is gone.

What a joke! Children need routine, this schedule is all over the place. Why not show Waybuloo, In the night garden and bedtime story as before with Abney and Teal on just before Bedtime Hour. Also please let there be some new bedtime stories. You need to start listening to parents.

Couldn't agree with the sentiments above more. The whole point is that the day doesn't matter to children this age, it's all about the routine. Will miss Charlie & Lola too as this is a favourite. Just means we'll abandon CBBeebies completely and use DVDs instead. Not ideal but only way to get consistency. It would be nice if you actually did some research in to what parents & more importantly children want rather than change for changes sake.

for starters the programmes need to stay the same no matter what day of the week it is & second why put waybuloo on? its rubbish!

We are going to really miss Charlie and Lola. It is a favourite with my 3 year old and 1 year old. They always go and have a bath after dinner and come back in time to watch Charlie and Lola in their towels. :( At least In the Night Garden is in place, everything would fall apart if Iggle Piggle didn't go to sleep just before the bedtime story.

Not to sure about this new line up. Routine is so important to children, they don't care what day of the week it is!

What do you by a bite-sized waybuloo? Please not the 10 minute show with the narrator.

Charlie and Lola is brilliant and something my son always looks forward too.

I also agree that Abney and Teal could easily stay where it is.

I agree.. The same programs should be shown 7 nights of the week. I don't think waybuloo & abney and teal are great but some people might like them.. I love 64 zoo lane though :) My son is 2 weeks from turning 1 so his routine is really important.

Love the BBC's comment about the weekend feeling different. Yeah my 1 year old lives for the weekend!!



Really... stop employing uni grads and get parents in to revise the scheduling.

Actually I don't think this is a bad thing. My daughters routine is that she watches the bedtime hour before she goes to bed then has a bath. She will not be that bothered by the change, it didn't matter last time. I welcome back waybaloo. Maddie was never that bothered by Charlie and Lola anyway.

Glad to see 64 Zoo Lane back but not happy with the return of Waybuloo. Would have been better to keep Driver Dan instead of returning Waybuloo. What dross! Agree with most people that routine should be the same for 7 nights. Changing the lineup for Friday and Saturday evening is a terrible idea. Sort it out please BBC.

Well..... I have just popped on here to check the new schedule for the bedtime hour and I cant stop laughing at how many of you are actually complaining about the change!

Your kids have to learn things in life change, if they miss certain programmes too much by a DVD better still You could learn not to rely on the tv!!

I am so disappointed to hear of this change to the bedtime hour. Ask your children-what do they prefer? I know mine definitely prefer the old line up. As for the comments "your children need to learn change" this is a little young to learn this life lesson. I am a child psychiatrist and all studies have shown pre-schoolers respond best to ROUTINE. they have plenty of time to adapt to change when they grow up. Very disappointed with ceebeebies.

Are you for real? Do you not remember the outcry last time you changed Waybuloo for the 10 minute version?



For those of you who don't remember, only one of the episodes were actually aired, because of the almost unanimous disapproval from everyone... I don't think anyone wants to see any episodes with Dave Lamb talking sarcastically over the piplings, making the whole thing sound like Come Dine With Me...

actually as a mom of a severely autistic boy (with some behavioural training) and small toddler, i think it really only matters what the very last programmes are! in the night garden and bed time story have stayed the same, and will remain the same every day. children will adapt to the changes before in the night garden easier than you think....the important thing is that they still have the cue from in the night garden to settle down , and a cue that its time for bed after bed time stories. thats your consistency. i agree it would be damaging if the bbc changed this but they havent, still giving kids a familiar , consistent routine right before bed :)

I do not mind the bedtime hour changing and think its great to have abney and teal join. My daughter loves Charlie and lola but I'm sure they will be back. The only thing I do not like is waybuloo. Please no more waybuloo. It is an awful programme.

The line-up can't stay the same for the rest of time. I think it's good news - 64 Zoo Lane is brilliant! And Abney & Teal is good.



I agree about Waybuloo though.... And I'd get rid of Night Garden personally but I doubt that'll happen.

I just want Charlie and Lola back at 6:10 ! It's the only show on CBeebies based on the sort of lives children actually lead. I know my grandchildren related to these stories, that often echoed their own experience. While I'm glad it's not gone completely, I think it would be far better left where it is.

Whatever you do, please dont move in the night garden for the next 3 years!! Iggle piggle falls down, waves good night and my toddlers head towards the stairs.

Tuned into the bedtime hour tonight with fingers crossed and alas it has not gone down well... My 2 year daughter loves Charlie & Lola and is currently wandering round the living room saying 'oh dear' and 'where's Lola?'. Not impressed with 64 Zoo Lane at all... thank goodness for In the Night Garden! Calm restored.

I appreciate that things have to change from time to time, and the important ones in terms of routine are In the Night Garden and Bedtime Story, but for our family Charlie and Lola was also part of our daily routine. We have had requests from the 3 year old and 1 year old for Lola. But they are both enjoying Abney & Teal and 64 Zoo Lane. We are not awake at 6:50am, our alarms go off at 7:30 to start our day so will have to get some Charlie & Lola DVDs in I imagine. I'd like to throw in as well that they both LOVE Dipdap! The floods of giggles that erupt from the both of them at this little stick figure who doesn't talk is incredible. They laugh until they get the hiccups! Whatever the creators of Dipdap are doing, they are doing it well and please don't take it away! It is an excellent moment of silliness that sometimes re-sets us all and puts us in a better mood. (I am a part-time stay-at-home-mum and re-setting happens often in our house.)

Very glad to see new episodes of both Abney and Teal, and unexpectedly, 64 Zoo Lane, both of which are very clever, innovative programmes.



I do hope Waybuloo (probably one of the best programmes ever produced for young children, along with 'In the Night Garden) isn't 'edited' too severely - though glad the voice-over idea piloted some months back, hasn't been used - it really would have spoiled Waybuloo, which is a complete world of it's own - no need for explanations, as children are encouraged with such viewing to explore their own use of movement/language, and their own comprehension.



Agree totally with ideas about routine, but it is good to have change seasonally, towards the beginning and end of the year, as it provides a demarcation in the year for the summertime, and wintertime, just so long as the programmes are being replaced by similar well known one's. Also, a new set of children are coming along continually, just as others outgrow this hour. There inevitably will be necessary change at some point.



Thank you for maintaining the best children's programming on the TV, despite all the difficulties relating to cutbacks etc.

I agree with the comments above. My daughter is 9 months old and absolutely LOVED the bedtime hour - particularly Charlie and Lola. It's such a shame that it has all been moved around. There is no consistency now and extremely hard to get a good bedtime routine now involving CBeebies. I think we shall resort to DVD's too. What a shame.

My three-year-old was overjoyed to see 64 Zoo Lane back, she loved it when it was part of the bedtime hour way back when. Am glad to see that the mini-Waybuloo has disappeared, too - it really doesn't seem to have much to offer... Never could see the point of teaching children a whole lot of nonsensical words when the real thing would do (eg. 'Narabug' for 'butterfly') But that's a whole different kettle of piplings!

I think that as long as the bedtime hour stays basically the same, periodic variations are a good thing. Change is a fundamental part of life, after all. But mess with the night garden at your peril!
