Good news, I think, about our nurses. Today the Health Secretary is announcing that from now on, prospective nurses who want to be trained within the NHS will have to first complete a year as a healthcare assistant in order to learn the basics of nursing - in other words, learn what it's like to wipe a bottom, show care, thoughtfulness and compassion - and indeed, find out whether or not nursing is for them. It should give us better nurses - shouldn't it?
