One small but rather expensive step
Anne Diamond
I was talking today about becoming an astronaut. Yes, you can - if you sell the house and move into a box. To many it might almost be worth it! Certainly if I hadn't already 'down-sized' several times, I'd consider it.
Let me explain. To be an astronaut, you officially have to fly in space at an altitude of 50 miles above the earth - then, no matter who you are, you are awarded astronaut's wings. Well, that's the plan for Virgin Galactic, Richard Branson's space flight company which plans to get going within the next two years. Today I spoke to a man (astronomer and space expert, Nigel Henbest) who has already put down his deposit and will be around the 200th space tourist.
And the price?
About £130,00, which makes it way beyond most people's budget. Unless you're selling your house, like wot I am at the moment. And you could stand living in a box. I'll have to think it over.
