What a fantastic opening to the Commonwealth Games!

A float in the shape of a train passes by with performers during the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in New Delhi

I didn't mean to - but I caught the opening of the Commonwealth Games on TV this weekend and was absolutely captivated. I must confess I started watching it to see if it was going to be a massive flop - but it was utterly brilliant! Did you see the fantastic train and the huge Buddha? And the dancing was so colourful! Let's hope the games themselves will be as successful as the opening ceremony. I'm really looking forward to the table tennis. Ooh, and the tennis. And the lawn bowls. Enjoy!

HI and thanks for your wonderful post on the CWG opening ceremony in India. I am an native Indian, but live in Canada. So many Indians, living in India and Internationally, felt that a lot of the negative press before the games was instigated for reasons unknown. It was strange, but inspite of all the negative press, many of us felt confident that everything would turn out right in the end, and it did!

Nothing collapsed, no athlete got dengue and no venue was under water. The Games Village where the athletes stayed was in the end described as being the best by many who had been to previous events in other countries. The games went off spectacularly and India got to showcase it's culture and talent in both the opening and closing ceremonies.

I was happy to read your blog and post on the CWG!

    Thanks and regards,

    Misty
