Skelocrats – Lyin’ Eyes
They Say: “I have ideas for concept albums every so often. I write a couple of songs then get bored of the idea. When I wrote Lyin' Eyes, the concept was a lurid documentary song cycle about ludicrous Irish villains. I'm really glad I didn't follow through on that. Lyin' Eyes survived as a 70s-ish folk-rock ballad that strays into Byrds or Pretenders territory, but on reflection is most traceable to listening to Nick Lowe circa Cruel To Be Kind.
I think Bronwyn knocked it out of the park with her classic woman-scorned vocal, congrats to her”.
We Say: "There’s so much of it, we could probably do a tune a day that’s just Dublin based indie-pop. That said, and Skelocrats manage to stand out with a lush and cute 60’s influenced jangle".
