Rigsy caught up with Niamh Hegarty to talk about some of their favourite new releases.

MuRli and mynameisjOhn – Hear Thee

Niamh: “It’s muRli’s debut EP, he’s a Limerick based rapper and I just think it’s a fantastic track…muRli himself has actually toured with Snoop Dogg…it’s pretty cool that yeah the Irish Hip Hop scene has a little bit more going on than kind of meets the eye.”

Rigsy: “I’m a big fan…That’s new from muRli featuring mynameisjOhn on production duties… mynameisjOhn is a remarkable talent…”

Wasted Space – This Isn’t You

Niamh: “They’re an emerging Cork act and they’re just really good musicians. They’re giving the punk scene in Cork a much needed jolt…I’m just looking forward to hearing more from this act.”

Rigsy: “There’s something about this, that makes you think of you know early days Therapy? and early days of Ash.”

Alphabetika – Dirt in My Bones

Rigsy: “It’s got that little bit of charm that you sometimes find in folk music...there’s enough colour in there, there’s enough quirkiness - it’s just a little bit odd in the best possible way.”

Niamh: “It’s a really colourful track…and he’s got a gorgeous tone to his voice as well.”

Skelocrats – Lyin’ Eyes

Rigsy: “The more I hear this - the more I love it – they’re a four piece from Dublin…fun, colourful, DIY, indie, pop…”

Swallowing Shoes – Tenor Banjo

Niamh: ‘Well Measuring Tape’ EP is the debut release from this Dublin based artist….and it became my favourite release of the year last year…It’s got wonderful harmonies, just lovely synth sounds and it reminds you a bit of Grandaddy.”

Jape – Séance of Light

Niamh: “Just wonderful synth sounds and wonderful vocal…I’m so excited about this track.”

Rigsy: “Jape is just an incredibly adventurous musician and a very lovely man.”

Dear Desert – Pharaoh Vessel

Niamh: “They have a sound that is unique to them, definitely ones to watch this year... I love this track.”

Lives – Down By the Sea

Rigsy: “This is the biggest band to come out of Ballynahinch…this is a very positive start for a band to go into the studio with a distinct sound…they’ve put the bar very high for their first recording.”
